My alt theory: In order not to get labeled as a slut for sleeping around the World with a stranger, it may have been advised by the news agencies, or she may have decided herself to make up a "pretty serious bf" that is actually non-existing, so the arrows don't point to her.
Now all the focus is at the puppy and the non-existing bf.

How would you know ? Did you see any responses in the scenario, where the bf and the puppy weren't disclosed ? Or do you just imagine the possible responses in such scenario ?

Also, judging by the response of this forum, it's clearly helping. Ppl are in discussion for the bf, and puppy mainly, and not for her morals (not saying anyone should be judging anyone else).
