share you anger

Got another one to ***** about here after receiving an item from FedEx. Why do they charge $10 just for processing my taxes at the border and then collecting the taxes from me? They are a shipping company and that is part of the cost of shipping across the border. Hell, it only costs them something for like 2 days before I pay the taxes back to them and it costs me $10? The company I bought it from already paid them to ship it which should include all the services required to, you know, actually ship the item. But no, I have to have a credit card on file with them to not get this fee. If that is the case I should at least be warned about this and told I should create an account. It's usually out of the recipient's control over what company is used. Should I be creating an account with every possible shipping company and put my credit card on file just in case someone sends me something through them so I don't get a bunch of extra fees? ********. And for $10 the guy can't even give you change at the door. You must have exact change ready for the total charges even though there is no way to find out how much the total charges are before the package arrives. Yeah, I just happen to have exactly $47.71 in my pocket.

When I buy something at a store they don't charge me $10 extra just to process my taxes. Sure FedEx had to put some money out of pocket for a couple days until I paid them back. Well a store has to put money out of pocket to pay for the item before I buy it but they don't charge $10 for keeping the shelves stocked.

I even told them I give them thousands of dollars annually through shipping at work because I ship almost everything through FedEx. Told them I was going to stop using them at work. The response was basically, "You should create an account to avoid this in the future."

How about this? I just avoid you in the future, FedEx. Screw you.

Rant over.

Normally I would just reject the package and let them send it back.

Unfortunately I need the parts for my car and the company only ships to Canada via their "free" FedEx shipping. At least I didn't get dinged a massive brokerage fee that I usually get. $10 isn't bad considering some of the fees I've been charged but I still think it's bull. I created an account to avoid it in the future but I'll be avoiding using them at work from now on.

And even Canada Post charges something like $9.00 for brokerage which means a massive $1.00 savings, for an extra week or so in transit time.

Not in my experience, maybe u're doing it wrong

Best luck I've had is with companies that ship UPS and have already made proper arrangements for everything so you pay nothing. This usually only happens with Canadian companies that ship from the US. For example, when you order from Tiger Direct (Canada) a lot of their stuff comes from the US but they arrange it so well that it's transparent to the customer. I know because one time they screwed up and didn't arrange it right and I had to pay brokerage but I just emailed TigerDirect and they sent me a check back for the cost and then took it up with UPS themselves.

Well I don't use "Borderfree", as I'm not a business and I don't have the stuff declared as a 'gift', because that could result in criminal charges, so all that's left is standard USPS to Canada Post, which carries a brokerage fee.
