SF Quote on 636

14 years ago is basically irrelevant.

An example I have is in 2009 I paid $2800 on a 2001 CBR 600 F4I (16 years old, clean record, M2) through Facility insurance. Pretty sweet eh?!!

Got a quote this year (2012) for the same bike through Facility insurance, couple years older now, clean record, M2 still. $4300.

3 years later, I'm 3 years older, nothing else has changed and I would have to pay $1500 more. Come on

It's a scam here. The know they have you cornered here so they just up the rates and use any excuse they can.

Happens with almost everything here. Cell phones, internet, insurance, etc.

Careless is 3 dangerous driving is 5

Dangerous driving is 5, probably because one would by default get a suspension along with the charge, and for suspensions, insurers check for a 5year record.

It definitely sounds like they're taking the careless into account for that quote.

Not sure if that's even possible... they don't insure those with a Careless I think.

14 years makes a huge diffrence

You would think so, but at the time I had a 2 yr old CBR 600, my buddy in Markham had a brand new F4i. He was the one who turned me on to his State Farm agent.
He and I had identical rates backt hen. He still pays the same today, on the same bike he has been riding since 2001. Same guy, same bike, same agent, same address, same company. I suspect if I got a new 600 and called State Farm, I would be paying $600-$700. Once you get a good rate and are over 25, State Farm never gets any cheaper.

When I got a quote from SF today with an at fault accident (car) and a ticket (stop sign), they just said my accidents/tickets cannot hit 3 otherwise they will cancel me. I would assume having dangerous driving/careless driving would be the same (as long as at faults + tickets doesn't = 3, you're okay but will probably have higher rates)

I wouldn't think they'd turn you away just for careless driving as an at fault accident seems like like it should be more of an issue than a ticket as it actually costs them.

That being said, no car for me until my accident comes off my record in 2 years... It was said that my rate for a car would be $600+/month vs $120/month for a cbr125 (fair deal considering the at fault).

Not completely true, I have a 7 day suspension from a racing charge and its only on my abstract for 3 years. So insurance can not see it after 3 years.

I have also been charged and convicted with dangerous driving in the past, and that was on my driving record for 5 years, because it is a criminal charge not HTA. There is also a one year suspension and probation that came with that conviction.

I believe the 3 vs 5 year record is due to it being a much more serious criminal charge, where as careless even thou more serious at 6 points, is still just an HTA charge...You dont get arrested like I did for dangerous driving :P

The kick in the *** with the racing is I won all 4 tickets I got that day in court, they were all thrown out at trail because they were BS. Yet I still have the 7 day suspension stain for 3 years on my record...Now thats BS! I won but I still lost

I paid $434/month with SF on a 650R in Guelph area when I was 24 (4 years ago). If you're in the GTA I'd say that rate is actually pretty decent. Just wait until you're 25.
