Seriously?? NO Helmet?

Recently returned from 3 days in Toledo (drew the short straw at work). Very soon after crossing the state line, it became apparent that Ohio does not have a helmet law. I saw somewhere around 18 to 20 bikes - all sizes & styles...some in-town, some on the Interstate @ 75mph - and saw a grand total of two riders wearing helmets. Law or no law, would you even consider riding without one?
(And to make matters worse, some of them had their high-beams on, too)

Hell yeaaaaa I would!!!!!!!

...only if I was lucid dreaming though really :confused1:

I went mountain biking when I was 18 right before graduating and going to university; I missed a jump, landed on a log, flipped off my bike and ended up in a coma. My helmet fell off on me half way through the ride (God knows how or why, I still don't know how/why to this day). My friends were poking at me until they saw blood coming out of my ear.

No, I would NEVER ride without my helmet.

good lord. thats bloody epic. i am glad it all worked out and you are able to tell us about it.i wont wear a lid if im moving bikes around or shuffling in the drive way. otherwise its a lid all the time.its saved my life a few times now.

My boi lives in Arizona, no helmet law there either.

Know of a guy who died in his driveway and heard of another, both with no helmets.

I've used my helmet on the rd, the dirt and the snow..when I say used I mean actually used it as designed (accidents happen...everywhere, any speed)
Speed is not an issue....it's more impact (which can happen at any speed).
No how ...No way would I ever , ever, ever ride without a helmet.
Those who don't ride with helmets....don't need them!

I would have to do it at least once if I was down there. Nice easy ride...after that I think I would keep the helmet on. I like the thought of not seeing my brains on the road, but one ride to experience it and it be legal. I'd give it one tour.

Can't see no helmet excePt maybe slow cruise in daytona...

saw a harley guy in St Paul Minn a few years ago, couldn't figure out how he kept a ball cap on at highway speed

Coming up I-75 in Ohio headed for Michigan, in the rain as a bonus, I was passed by a couple of sport bike riders whose full-face helmets with pretty visors were proudly strapped to the sides of their bikes. They must have really enjoyed the pelting-BB effect of rain drops on bare face while doing so.

About 20 minutes later, I see them stopped on the side of I-75, just a few feet before the Welcome to Michigan sign, putting on their helmets. Michigan has a compulsory helmet law.

call me a noob but where would you strap the helemt to the side of your bike while riding without it getting in the way of anything?
My bike has 2 helmet holders one under the seat and one slightly above the passanger peg and both seem to be in such a position that it would either hit something or get in my way.

I would never ride without a helmet, for a couple reasons.

1. Dont like bugs and debris in my face/eye
2. Its protective
3. Don't want gals stalking me because me + bike = Sexy
4. Powerranger fan!
5. Great cover up when you have messy hair and want to ride.

On my Ninja 250, they're out of the way. I sometimes double check just to see if my passenger helmet is still there.

Tied down and draped partly over the side of the passenger pillions as I recall. They were well up and out of the way of any moving parts or the rider's feet.

"Those who don't ride with helmets....don't need them! "

People behave differently when they wear helmets because protection is disinhibiting. Again, I would always wear one, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone who chose not to. Different people have different attitudes to risk. Some are ignorant, and some just have different values. Look at anywhere in southeast asia.

Whether it's the "squids" on hyabusas who act like rejects from jersey shore auditions (a dude with a fake tan is just not a dude), scraggly toothless yahoos and their husbands on HDs, or those bad *** accountants on R1200s (who here can throw the CGA gang finger sign?) I say to each his own.

I just got back from a road trip to Detroit, Chicago and Cleveland.. the most popular form of "safety" gear I saw seemed to be baseball caps and sunglasses. If we could ride without helmets here, even besides the safety part I think all the noise and bugs would get to me!

I have to admit much of my early riding career was helmetless, but that was overseas and thats just how it was there, although helmets are a lot more common now. I was lucky I never really crashed, not until I first started riding here at 19. But here I was older, more knowledgeable and had proper gear. Even after 3 crashes I still haven't touched my head down. I'm glad because I love my helmet and can't get another like it, not even if I had big $$ to spend.
