Yes....yes, they are. And hey, they might save your life some day.

But that doesn’t mean the person doing the inspection cares if they’re not there. If someone passed a bike with a plate light missing or not working they did a **** inspection - what else did they miss? Cracked brake flex lines? Pad thicknesses? Frayed/corroded control cables? Leaking fork seals?

Reflectors are not. The "reflectors" listed int he safety requirements are in reference to the reflective part of a light or turn signal.

Read CMVSS107, not the inspection checklist.

If you’ve ever noticed a new motorcycle for sale on the floor they are legally required to have side marker reflectors – manufactures don’t put them on there just for the fun of it, they are legal requirement, and they are legally also required to be there accordingly to pass safety.
