See, a Grom is plenty big enough!

He got lucky in the Bear picture. I think a Bear could out run a Grom.

No, still not big enough.

People go cross continent with Vespa's. Still doesn't mean the Grom is anything more than a glorified scooter.

I've never rode one but I read reviews from the media and some forums and they seem to be a hoot. I don't know about touring on one

Pfft seen a guy go from Florida to Alaska on a CBR125R....from Portland...bah!

On a serious note, good for him. I'd love to do a trip like that. Maybe one day when I am making enough to take a month off or so and just travel on the bike.

On another serious note be careful what you wish for. 10hr. days in the saddle week after week is something you need to experience to fully understand. Not always what it's cracked up to be. On a tiddler probably less so.

Furthest I've gone on the smallest bike I've owned. Brantford ontario to BC and back on an 85 xl250. And Brantford to Florida on an 83 gs400e. I was 16 and 17 respectively and did both trips alone.
Both times I travelled with just a backpack and sleeping bag, the BC trip I was on the road for 6 weeks.

Wait so it's not as much fun and enjoyable as threads, movies, and stories make it out to be? I thought it was all sunshine, rainbows, friendly people, and curved roads as far as the eyes can see...self reflection, bonding b/w man and machine, man and nature...

I need to have a word with your parents.

I tour on my little 636, but I wish I could've toured on a ZX10 instead....bigger bike = easier to tour.

You spelled ZX14 wrong.

Unless you're touring with a 200lb passenger, touring on a 1000cc bike is no easier than a 600cc bike. Especially when you're talking ss bikes. Either bike will break the speed limit in first gear. Either bike will take you and any gear you want to take anywhere you want to go. I've toured extensively on my Bandit 600cc, with my 210lb butt and three givi cases loaded to the hilt and never felt the need for the 1200cc Bandit.

Point of the post was to show that the Grom can do just about anything you want it to. It'll cruise all day long at 85km/h which is still breaking any non-highway speed limit in this province. Groms are a ton of fun, stupid cheap to buy and insure, parts are cheap and if you figure it out in smiles per dollar spent then it's probably one of the best bikes out there.

The furthest I have gone on a single cylinder 500cc bike was to Battle Creek Michigan. It wasn't that bad.

Eh... I wouldn't call Groms stupid cheap. Don't get me wrong, I like them as a concept, but the price butts up against more capable CBR125Rs which you can buy for about half now.

Also if we are seriously debating the touring worthiness of Groms, I worry about the small mass, small wheelbase and small wheels. I am a featherweight and usually rely on the bike making up my mass shortage to avoid travelling down the road like a meth addicted squirrel. I've never ridden a Grom but I have ridden a 125R and I thought that was already pushing the limit of what I could tolerate at highway speeds. (The GS500 isn't much better TBH)

2min search on Kijiji...

$2k or so for a 2010 CBR125
$3K or so for a 2014 Grom
$3k or so for a 2014 CBR125

Tough call...If I had a big touring bike or a bigger bike then I'd get the Grom simply for the boot around town factor.

Lol They moved to Florida when I was 15, I stayed in Brantford Ontario alone. They didn't get much say in my vacation plans. :)

I rode a KLX 250 out to Halifax down to Boston and back when I was 17, stealth camping off logging roads or sleeping on park benches and even got harassed by the police in Levis.

Then I came home and shipped off for infantry training in st Jean, Quebec.

Some of us had to grow up a little faster than others, eh?

I rode (1975 CB750) to Jasper Alberta at 20. Late bloomer. Oh, and back.

I moved out when I was 20 and I didn't ride any tiny bikes anywhere. I feel inadequate now.
