Scooter vs cbr 125

Hi Guys,

Just recently sold my R6 and moved to the heart of the City in Toronto. Feel the need for a scooter or some sort, but debating in just getting a cbr 125 since I used to own one. It's mainly for city driving and amazing on insurance(similar to a scooter).

Thoughts?
 
Im confused your signature says you already sold a 125 because its too slow...I personally would go back to the R6....if not maybe a 250R?
 
Too slow for Ajax, but in Toronto it wont be too slow.

I'm looking into buying a scooter so 125 feels like a scooter but a bit faster.
 
For downtown Toronto I'd say a scooter is more practical, not to say the 125 isn't. Scooters can pretty much park anywhere and get away with it. Also shifting from light to light gets very tiring.

Thats a very good point with the shifting, can get tiring quickly :(
As for parking, what do you mean? where you park a scooter is more acceptable in some places then a small bike?
 
BTW, budget is a factor, hence why im not looking at the 250cc bikes. I can pick up a cbr125 for 1500~1900 easily. 250 sell for 2.5k+ usually, nice ones sell for 4k+ :(
 
If you buy a scooter get one with fat tires for the street car tracks. Yamaha BW50 BW125 C3 or cube, Honda Ruckus 50cc, Kymco makes a few. Stay away from new Lambretta scooters. China bought the name to slap on crappy scooters.

I have a Kymco Super9LC loads of fun 80kph easy. I have a Ruckus but found it slow. My BW50 is fun and loads of aftermarket to make it go really fast.

Good in town. lots of storage and you can still go places and have fun in the twisties.

The BW 50 is a 2 stroke - too much of a downsize tho certainly fun.

If you are riding really local consider one of the upper end electrics. Range is good and insurance is zero.
Not cheap for a good one but hey no other ongoing costs.
 
Downtown riding...scooter. Storage space for errands and no shifting from light to light. Get a 250 or a 300 so you can take it out of the city if you wanna.
 
I am amazed at how competent the CBR125R is. I figure it beats small scooters hands down in performance, but I admit, no underseat storage is a problem. Mine keeps up with traffic up to 70 kmph no problem, and will cruise the highway, so it has more options for trips out of the core than a 50-100 cc scooter has. And personally I like shifting gears!

In the city the scooter, with its traditionally smaller wheels might be more nimble. Scooters usually have better weather coverage and more storage. They are easier to park.

For the same 125ccs the manual shift CBR will give you better gas mileage (~50kpl) than a CVT scooter. 2T bikes require adding oil, which may not be a big deal. My insurance company is telling me scooters and 125cc bikes are about the same premium, but you should call.

I also like shifting so would bias towards the CBR, but also like the leg shields of most scooters.
 
Though Scooter seems more practical in all manners, I still drive a 5 speed manual sport car as my daily rider, so I love driving manual transmission because its just funner bottom line. I'm also debating in picking up the new 2011 125 because it looks bigger and nicer. which they would have kept the double lights similar to the rr.
