Scooter Insurance...

Called TD, Riders +, J. Duffy and Co-Operators (which doesn't insure certain bikes), cornerstone. All of them are quoting me over $1000 for the Yamaha Majesty (400cc), which is odd since my Suzuki Cat-Tuna 750 costed me $1100 to insure. Anyone have any advice to get decent motorcycle insurance for a scooter or am I doom to pay this over-priced pile of poop?

Scooter insurance in Ontario is a rip-off. The Ontario government treats scooters as motorcycles and therefore you are stuck paying motorcycle insurance rates. I hope you an find a better rate somewhere. There is obviously an oligopoly that is engaged in uncompetitive behaviour.

I just don't understand the logic of how they can charge me $1100-$1500 for a 400cc scooter and charge me the same price for a cbr600 or katana 750? I doubt the yamaha majesty get's into more accidents than a cbr f4.

If it's a 400CC scoot, then it will be treated as a 400CC bike. The rates on that scoot are probably similar to what you would pay on a Suzuki GS500 or a Kawi Ninja 500.

Call me crazy, but I think their charging even more, as I've said, It's costing the same amount to insure the 400cc Scooter as my 750 katana.

The insurance company will band CC's together and apply the same rate. Although it's unlikely, the 400CC and 750CC could be in the same band (eg. 0CC - 149CC; 150CC - 399CC; 400CC - 750CC; etc.)

It's also possible that your company has separate Scooter and Motorcycle algorithms, and a 400CC Scoot works out to more than a 750CC bike (but this seems unlikley too).

I agree -- it just seems weird.
