Scarborough back roads new rider no rider friends

I just have my m1 and I bought a 125 cbr but I don't have any friends that ride.
I am leary to ride in rush hour as I live in Scarborough around Midland and Lawrence.

Anyone ride in that area?
Also is there a book I can get with back road maps for the Scarborough area and going east?
I am usually home after 3 pm and would like to get some riding time but am not willing to be run over in rush hour by the crazies.

I almost got hit two days ago as I was riding around 8 am ( I just ride around my neighborhood and the parking lots).
I stopped for a school bus crossing and some nutbar did not pay attention and came to a screeching halt 10 ft behind me:mad:.
Anyway the city streets can be intimidating as I am more worried about being hit by an idiot.

Not much backroads in Scarborough, except twyn rivers.

I'm normally off on Mondays & Tuesdays, send me a pm I can show you what little there is.

There isn't that much to worry about unless you are riding recklessly. Just be prepared to stop and watch out for anyone turning in front of you (especially left turners).

So far as finding nice roads to ride on, that's half the fun of riding a motorcycle. Go where the road takes you and find them yourself. Twin Rivers is popular for motorcycles just watch your speed on the metal bridge. Also check out Old Finch Ave.

^ that's pretty much all you'll get in Scarborough. Make your way up to midland and finch and ill join ya for a ride.

I'm close to where you are and I am borrowing a 125 right now as well. I'm usually always available so if you wanna ride sometime, send me a pm. Not too many nice days left but this week is looking good. I'm available as early as tomorrow afternoon/early evening if you wanna get out. I'll definitely be taking advantage of the nice weather.

Hey Oletimer and welcome!

I ride a CBR125 too! Let me know when you guys want to go riding this week!

Hey iceman thanks for the reply.
I am usually home after 5 on weekdays and I only have m1 so I have to get home before dark.
how about Sunday? Where are you at?
Thanks

I went riding yesterday and stalled 4 times.
It happened usually on uphill at a stoplight.
A friend told me to give some throttle before I release clutch on uphills.
Other than some impatient people all was ok.
I went up Lawrence to Kingston from Midland and down Kingston south to birchmount and back north to eglinton and then midland.
Not bad since I get home late from work.
I also found that some people are impatient as my bike takes time to get up to 60-65 being a 125.
Seems like most people want to go 0-65 in 2 secs.
Can I go 1-2 gear faster on a bigger bike?

Don't be afraid to ride in high revs and low gear if you need to move quick from stops.

The stalling is because you let your clutch out in 1st while stopped and off the throttle. Hold on to it or pop it into neutral.

Take a course too. 2 more left this season I think. Oct 14 last day.

you can try google map and look for riding routes

Thanks Sunspark I already took the course.

Also mentioning neutral hard to find on this bike I have to go into first and upshift slightly between 1-2 to get neutral. My bike seems touchy with the neutral:confused:

That's how it is supposed to be. A half-click between 1st and 2nd.

You'll get it, keep practicing. Not during rush hour however.

Go up Meadownvale to plug hat, left at the end and right on Taunton, next light make a left on York?durham lane, up to 7 and make a right on 7th, all the way to brock, left on brock and right on Concession road 7. all the way to Lakeridge road and make a left, right on Brawley (next street) and then left on ashburn, follow it all the way to 12, go north on 12 to 7A and make a right, straight to Port Perry.

About 1 hr and 20 min ride

Let me know when you're free and the weather is half decent. I'll come to you and show you some clutch control and shifting. In no time, it will become second nature. (Yes, I checked my pm as well) =)
