Say goodbye to watching free hockey

You can bet your *** roger will not broadcast on free tv for long the greedy pricks

You mean like jays games, and the 75% of the leafs schedule they already show

I'd say they make more money off the advertisers than subscribers for the game.

hey Nike we have X million viewers per game....pay up!

i think it makes sense to have them broadcast more games.

true, but if they make it so you need cable to watch the games they broadcast, then they are doubling up on the profits. and we already know how greedy corporate world are

well **** nuts, cbc is, right. better yet why don't you f-off and go troll another thread

by my count CBC will show 27 games this season.

TSN 15

ROGERS sportsnet 20

Leafs TV 14

So 60 games you have to pay for already. And as stated, CBC will still be doing hockey night in canada.

Is rogers gonna charge doubly for cable now? I don't get your point

Did you read the press releases at all? CbC is keeping their games, and we already pay cable to watch the others.

you missed the whole point of the post, now rogers have full broadcasting rights, cbc was the only free tv station showing the games.

now go back to your boy friend

CBC will still be broadcasting leaf games on saturday nights. What aren't you getting here

i hope your right, i really don't want to pay a 100 bucks a mth to watch a hockey game.

these companies will not leave a dime on the table. if they see a way of raping and pillaging the community they will

CBC will still get hockey games on Saturday nights. But they msay not get all the Leaf games they get now. Not sure if Don Cherry will be around also.

One thing is for sure , get ready for a cable and internet increase in payments. Every time Rogers makes a new purchase , we end up paying for it. Of course they will feed us the same line that due to increases in costs etc, I bet they already applied to CRTC for an increase.

Let them apply for it....this just makes my decision to cancel or not to cancel Rogers easier!

Full disclosure: I used to work for a media company that is affected by this deal, also I hate hockey. Also I want TSN to DIAF for crippling live F1 coverage in Canada

While it's true this has an obvious impact in how these games get broadcast, what most people are interested in is the Leafs. Rogers currently shares ownership of MLSE with Bell, and as such neither can lock the other out of regional coverage. And due to THAT, it's not in either companies interest to move that coverage to subscriber-only channels. I could, however, see the fallout from the new NHL deal eventually motivating Bell to sell its MLSE stake to Rogers ... if that flies with Tanenbaum, I guess? Not even sure how that would work.

Also the whole thing about applying to the CRTC for increases in fees ... that stuff is peanuts to Rogers & Bell, and is mostly leverage for screwing each other. You've got to remember, you are not their customers, their advertisers are, and that is where they find their revenue. Hockey is pretty much the most profitable thing they have in that regard.

Well you're really not a fan then are you?

why, cause i can't afford a 100 bucks extra a mth...lol

You're a "fan" while it's free. But the minute your commitment is challenged and you have to reach into your pocket to prove your loyalty, you whine like a *****. Ergo, you're not a fan, just a viewer.

And, like I said before, hockey is a ****, parochial sport.

leave to good old GTAM, every thread turns into a shyt fest, well there was what maybe 6 post that qualified to the thread. thats not bad

My guess is Rogers will use this to boost their internet action, putting games online. It will also boost their tv ratings somewhat. I haven't watched anything on CityTV in over 10 years. If they put games on there that aren't on another channel I will be watching.
