Salt or Safe?

Anyone riding today or tomorrow? Richmond Hill had salt trucks out yesterday morning but driving in today I don't see any white roads (corners are dirty) but no brine lines or anything... too soon? More rain?

I hate this part of the season... itching to ride but scared to turn my bike into a rust bucket (I know its not instant but still!!)

It's both .... salty and safe. You don't control the level of salt, but it depends on you how safe you will make your ride.

The salt will not do much, until it gets wet ... which it is not today.

You need not worry about just the salt the sand is also an issue this time of the year. Yes I know many are out riding. but you have to consider the sand as well, not just from a traction stand point either. If your bike is nice and shiny and you like to keep it looking fresh then riding right now isn't a good option, (especially on higher speed roads, (80 k +).

As the vehicle in front of you drives along they kick up the sand, (think of the amount of road spray you get on a rainy day). Then you ride into the sand "spray" at 80K it is like riding your bike through a sand blaster. Now I am not suggesting that when you reach your destination you'll get off the bike and say WTF happened as you see all the exposed metal and plastics where paint used to be..LOL. But if you look closely you may see some pitting etc, (again over time). That is why my bike is all prepped but hasn't left the driveway yet. I have a nice paint job and I want to keep it that way, (which is why I also do0n't do dirt back roads, like dual sports do)..lol

But again it is only a choice you can make, it is YOUR bike treat it like you would want. I personally will be waiting for a few more heavy rain days. Perhaps Easter weekend I will break the girl out...

Been riding since 2 weeks ago... albeit on a crummy $1,500 bike.
Zero worries, zero care.

:D

Ive been riding around Richmond Hill for a few weeks now, just be careful in the corners there is still some sand in them. But other than that the roads around here are pretty damn good. Have fun!

The advantage of a lesser $ value bike. I can ride and not worry about keep it's paint, etc up to keep value and keep me from riding. My choice, not that anyone else's is wrong.

Been riding since March 20th, and yeah the salt/sand on the roads have been very bad this year...Oh and let's not forget the potholes. However, I decided to take the chance and ride to the condition's of the road and really be aware of where the patches are. With every ride, I've been taking my bike to the car wash pretty well daily and spraying off all the salt. I guess it depends on how bad you're itching to ride and if it's really worth it.

Next week will have below zero nights so there might still be some road salting I fear. Patience.

I'll say this - the GS500 I got for commuting got saltier than a sardine last season, and I was amazed at how fast it started corroding, lol

Oh well

I saw sweepers on hwy427, 2 hours ago.

427 north, by sherway gardens? i saw something on the highway around 11:30 tonight but wasnt sure what it was.

either way its still messy out there in some spots. I road mississauga road last weekend and i have to say it was fairly clear.
