Safety in ontario

Most cdn tire shops have 1 licensed mech for motorcycle safeties.
There's zero incentive to "look" for work.
If the signals work, it'll likely pass.
I bought new gsxr's that had rear signal lights way closer together than 13 inches.
Safety was good for 36 days. Has this changed?
Still good for a month as per one mechanic I was speaking to over the weekend

I had to know. So. I busted out the googler:

Any inspection station in Ontario licensed by the Ministry of Transportation can issue a Safety Standards Certificate, provided your vehicle passes an inspection.

A Safety Standards Certificate is valid for 36 days after the inspection. However, the certificate is not a guarantee or warranty that the vehicle will stay fit for any period.

So how does that work?. I get my M1, insurance, mto to transfer the bike to my name then off to get safetied (in those orders)

Or even better yet the bike is being sold as certified and the history of ownership search thing has already been done,
now you buy it and give the VIN to your insurance company if you haven't already, then plate it and that will need all your paperwork plus that is who collects the sales tax, when you plate it. Now you can ride it and pop wheelies and do cool stuff like that.

Ya I'm with you, helmet laws, seat belt laws, they want to make freakin abs law,
those stupid safety switches on a riding mower or tractor seat <- that one almost killed me today! 45 degrees nose down, lift your ass off the seat and boom the freakin tractor power shuts down and you no longer have 4 wheel control :/ stupid @#$% safety switch.

Keep your ass in the seat. Some looney tune has run himself over, so this is for the lowest common denominator.

Have you ever driven a compact 4 wheel drive tractor on rough terrain? Sometimes sitting is impractical,
it's like riding a motorcycle over rough terrain, same thing ;) stupid seat just gets in the way.

Then get a patio stone and leave it on the the seat, or put a bypass switch into the mechanism.

Those "mini" tractors probably aren't intended for steep inclines, or bumpy terrain.

I like the remove all the silly safety devices idea best (y)

:ROFLMAO: patio stone, where would I drive to get one of those, Kingston

Pull the plug to the seat and jump the circuit with a resistor. My car thinks it still has seats with side airbags in it by doing that.

Most lawnmowers arent that smart. When I have disabled that switch in the past, you just had to pull one wire.

I get my concrete stuff at Trousedale's Home Hardware in Sydenham. They have (had) 12 X 12 and up. But a bypass is my usual choice.

lol That's only an hour drive each way and concrete sounds like the most impractical and uncomfortable tractor seat cushion in human history.

I guess it depends on the shape of your butt. It would be a nice ride from Napanee if you took the right roads, but riding back with the block lashed to the bike might be a pain.

If I go to Sydenham via Napanee that would take even longer! I live close to Arden.
and I don't have a butt, I'm just a skinny bag of bones.

Sorry, thought you were further south. You mentioned Kingston in post 30. Yeah, my sitbones don't have much padding either. Other parts of me seem to have lots of padding.

I got a safety on my sportster last Friday. It was an insurance write-off with a clean title so I have modified it quite a bit.

The drive-through at Wendy's literally took longer then the inspection and paperwork. The guy asked me "are you selling it or is this for you to keep?" I told him it was for me and he asked for the milleage and Vin.

I didn't have to unload it from my truck or even turn the key on. He did take 2-3 seconds looking at each side of the bike while it was on the truck. My co-worker that recommended the shop to me said, basically if you're comfortable with the bike and its you riding it, then he'll give you the safety.

Technically that was not a legal safety as you can't possibly do the required tests on a truck but you got what you needed. Fwiw, a legal safety does not necessarily mean it is safe to ride anyway. Ultimately, you need to have comfort that your bike is safe and the paperwork to get it registered. Hopefully you have both now. Enjoy the new ride.

I understand the legitimacy of the inspection which is why I did not mention the name of the shop. I know there are a lot of bikes out there with mods less substantiate then mine that some shops would pick-apart so I thought that I would share a good experience.
