safety certificate at home

Is there someone who will come to my place to do a safety certification?

That's illegal, the safety inspector could get his/her license revoked if they were caught doing a safety somewhere other than their shop

yuuup rode to my house and wrote it for me, next day did the ownership transfer perfect.

Ted did it for me and my friends. No problems.

Btw,gsxr750xl ,could you please link the law, which prohibits performing safety inspection of the motorcycle at person's home rather than garage? I am very curious what the certified mechanic cannot do at my home that he can do in his garage (the stuff listed on the safety certificate).

Exactly what I was wondering

Some people dont even turn on the engine to safety.....

But i honestly dont see the difference in doing it at a shop or somewhere else, what specialized tools are required if any?

The specific requirement that limits doing safeties at a home (outside of zoning for commercial purposes if doing them as a business from a home location) is headlight aim. Measured, level, location and the equipment to measure it. It seems trivial but the requirements for headlight aim are similar to what's required for setting up an alignment rack.
The other requirements that are easily met are around safe lifting equipment.
The requirements for licensing a shop are to prevent shade tree safeties. Whether you agree with them or not, that's the purpose.

I'm a licensed mechanic and do some work from my home. I would love to be able to write safeties but I can't register a residential location as a licensed shop, regardless of the equipment I may have.

Ted's safeties have helped many of us who can't ride the bike to a shop. The guy doesnt do "fake" safeties where the mechanic just signs off the paper without even looking at the vehicle (I know several mechanics who do this). He's a mechanic, he's licensed, he checks your bike, he gives you a safety - all without you having to pay towing fees etc. Lets not ruin a good thing we have going here..

I dont think anyone is ruining anything here. A question was asked and answered. Sircastic is absolutely right. A shop has to have the proper zoning, it also has to have the proper equipment such as headlight aiming, brake lining and disc measuring devices, lift capability, etc. The MOT sends an inspector to the shop to confirm all is present before issuing an inspection station license. Note it says "station" not mechanic.
What Ted does is 100% against the rules and he knows it. Now that said I get asked all the time for on the spot safeties and I refer them to Ted. I really dont give a crap but dont try and sell the "He does a proper safety" line because most here know that is crap. If he is fine doing them and you are fine having them done then carry on. I dont care if I ever do them there is no money in safeties for the amount of time they take.

wrong

Not that I condone illegal safeties but for Roseys sake. If he honestly does this kind of safeties can we please be nice to him and keep it to PM and not open. You are all talking about how hes helped you by doing it and now you are potentially getting him in a lot of trouble.

Lovely 'thank you' imo.
