rubber brake lines how long do they last?

This is the very first thing I replace on any bike I buy.

the more you ride the more they flex...spongey brakes....
I've always replaced with braided stainless steel lines within a month

its the most important upgrade

Rubber works fine, and last very long!
Although steel feels and works better, there's no need for an upgrade if you are only following the HTA...
IMO, not neccessary!

Motomaster radials from CDN Tire will work fine on your car too....but to say they are as good as a set of Michelin Pilots is ridiculous.
The performance advantage of better brake feel power, and hydraulic control offered bu steel lines is head and shoulders above rubber OEM ones...espcially if they are older, as they will definitely have deteriorated with time, heat and cold extremes, and UV light exposure.

Do you just want brakes, or good brakes?

I upgraded my Ninja 250's lines to steel lines, and I've had people comment that my brakes feel better than their supersports. So, can't answer your question except to say that braided lines are usually a great, relatively cheap, upgrade.
