I was never impressed with his drug problem, but he was a good mayor. He went after tax wasters, the Toronto political establishment, the leftist Toronto media hated him (long before they knew about his drug abuse) and they were constantly plotting to get rid of him. But Rob was a man of the people, civic minded and a good man. I'll always side with his idea that subways are better than trains, that councilors should not get free limos and lunches, and that one union should not hold the city to ransom for garbage collection. And helping poor kids play football was not a conflict of interest. Rob made the rest of the council look like a bunch of jerks. RIP, best mayor Toronto has had in over 50 years.
Er, what exactly did he accomplish? As much as I dont wish to talk ill of the dead I am not going to stretch to inventing a legacy that doesn't exist. I could easily write a list of accomplishments he prevented from happening though.Pretty much agree. It's unfortunate that his personal problems caused him so much distraction. It's amazing he was able to accomplish what he did.
