I actually miss that guy. Too early, too young

I may not have agreed with everything the guy did but nobody deserves to go out with damn cancer. I briefly chatted with him a few years back at the Toronto Indy while he was still Mayor and I have to admit that he was personable and had some charisma. I feel for his family, friends, and loved ones. R.I.P.

I was never impressed with his drug problem, but he was a good mayor. He went after tax wasters, the Toronto political establishment, the leftist Toronto media hated him (long before they knew about his drug abuse) and they were constantly plotting to get rid of him. But Rob was a man of the people, civic minded and a good man. I'll always side with his idea that subways are better than trains, that councilors should not get free limos and lunches, and that one union should not hold the city to ransom for garbage collection. And helping poor kids play football was not a conflict of interest. Rob made the rest of the council look like a bunch of jerks. RIP, best mayor Toronto has had in over 50 years.

Pretty much agree. It's unfortunate that his personal problems caused him so much distraction. It's amazing he was able to accomplish what he did.

Er, what exactly did he accomplish? As much as I dont wish to talk ill of the dead I am not going to stretch to inventing a legacy that doesn't exist. I could easily write a list of accomplishments he prevented from happening though.

RIP. No doubt he had the best of intentions at heart but I didn't really agree with his methods.

Condolences to the family. No child should ever have to grow up without their parents.

Same here.

He did not deserve to go out like this but I don't think he did much for this city nor its constituents.

Please have a read at this:

Thanks for posting that. I'd never seen the whole thing before and it was pure entertainment.
It actually changed the way I think of him a little bit.

love/like him or hate him

The guy loved the city and his family.
He did things to help kids (football).
What do/did the other politicians actually do?

He is dead, have some respect for his family especially his kids.
/thread close

He loved his family so much that the police have been called to his house several times for domestics.

He loved Football so much he hired a known criminal to help coach and showed up intoxicated to yell at the kids and make them roll in bird crap.

It's one thing to respect the dead it's another to paint a false picture of a decent man which he was not.

Ford's kids are not reading this thread and they I'm sure are well aware of who their father was.

RIP Mr. Ford

During the ice storm my wife's mother who lives in Scarborough had lost her power and a pipe burst where it entered the house. Norm Kelly her councilor and acting Mayor had buggered of to the Caribbean in the middle of it, but some how she managed to get through to Rob. He had a crew come and turn off the water at the street when she could find no one else to help.

Did he have flaws, sure. I'm not perfect my self. It must be nice to be perfect though

Thanks for all your help Rob.
