riding with high beams on

I'm pondering something...my brand new bike has 2 headlamps, one is lit up for low beam, both are lit for high beam...and both lights are pointed in the exact same direction. To maximize visibility to others and improve safety, I was thinking of running high beams all the time, after making sure that (with the help of a friend) the high beams aren't blinding people. The lights can be adjusted downwards, of course, and I would probably make a small adjustment if needed. What is your opinion on doing this? (I don't plan to ride at night out in the sticks anytime soon).

Modern bikes with properly designed lighting will dazzle oncoming traffic and irritate drivers you are riding behind at night. Mostly gone are the halogens that barely light up 3ft ahead of you.

Of course, test it yourself but the FJ-09 and MT-09 high beams i've seen will blind oncoming.

Don't, just don't. Dazzles oncoming traffic (including me). Do as Jayv suggests & find other ways including wearing a bright helmet &/or gear. Try additional running lights mounted on forks for more lights instead of brighter. A triangle of lights will make you more conspicuous.

If you turn on your parking light what comes on

My 2015 R6 headlights are terrible. Thought about lowering the high beam trajectory but there are times I needed it. Reflective patches on my jacket and reflective stickers/decals on the back of my helmet seems to help to be seen.

Riding with your high beams on is ignorant. A pair of yellow accessory beams is far better for conspicuity. Switching from low to high or vice versa is confusing and dangerous.
The denali d4's on my Duc in this pic are on high. On low they are perfect.

Thanks everyone.. Appreciated. Nobody likes being blinded by an idiot, and I for one, just an FYI, have gone to great lengths to reduce the intensity of the DRL's on my SUV (I had purchased some cool LED bulbs and they were stupid angry piercing bright, so I added a high-wattage resistor in series with the lamp, now they are perfect.) I like the idea of adding lighting or flicking the high beams in certain situations.

Just be careful with any beam flicking. Guy in the cage says to the cop... But i thought he wanted me to go?

I can't stand to see a rider with high beams on all the time. It makes me very angry. Sometimes it makes my eyes burn like I've looked at the sun and have that bunt into my cornea.
Sometimes it will even give me a migraine later.
There is no reason for doing this, except to make people angry.

HTA s. 168 states:

When on a highway at any time when lighted lamps are required to be displayed on vehicles, the driver of a motor vehicle equipped with multiple beam headlamps shall use the lower or passing beam when,

(a) approaching an oncoming vehicle within 150 metres; or

(b) following another vehicle within 60 metres, except when in the act of overtaking and passing.

I've been using a headlight modulator for about 12 years on my ST1100 and find them to be very effective. I only turn it on at interesections and other relatively high risk situations. Never run with it on 100% of the time as you will pi$$ people off and they will respond aggressively. I'm looking for a modulator for my new Tracer GT.

AH, the thing that makes me even more mad is a modulator.

I recorded this with my dash cam a few years ago. All I saw was a over powering light. It was more of an annoyance and a distraction rather than an increase in visibility
