I have a new tire on back and waiting to install front soon at dealer, was wondering if roads are good much worry of new tire slipping have to cross a few bridges etc.
Should I just ride around the area first to condition new front.. thanks

Just take it easy for the first 50 to 100 kms, to wear off any mold release left on the tires.

Most companies deny using any sort of mold release agents (Michelin still does I think). However, new tires are slightly more slippery as their surface is perfectly smooth. Some people and even businesses (!) shine their tires, tread area too, before selling them, which is criminal.

More important then worrying about mold release is to warm up your tires before you do anything crazy. Many people have fallen because they don't understand that cold tires don't behave the same way as ones properly heated. Usually, the more performance oriented rubber is, the more heat it will need.

I ride like I'm I the rain until a tank of gas goes through it.

Be super careful if you ride it in the rain for a bit!

Tricky situation to be sure. You can literally half your chances of upset by getting the tire installed far from home. The further the better. Most bike accidents happen close to home. Do the math, it checks out.

EDIT: good point above. For maximum protection do it on a sunny day.

its fine. just ride it

Never had a problem riding new tires. People tell you to be careful. Feels the same to me. I am not pretending I am valentino rossi on the way home though.

Btw new tire question? I thought you were a longtime motorcycle pro :lmao:

nah that's my cousin Elwood (insider joke) :)

ok, thanks

It's a few miles away roughly so should be ok......

If roughly on a few miles equates to 50-100kms you are indeed ok. I would bring a pack of flares just in case. If you don't need them you'll have them for the next BBQ. Win/Win.

Just take it easy for the first bit. I had both my tires done and first time I tried breaking I could feel it. Unlucky for me I had to ride in the rain as well but just give it a few rides before you go back to hitting the turns hot.

Just had new tires installed at Peninsula. Oakville. I asked the mechanic, Graham if he didn`t mind if I used emery on the tires before I ride out.
Nice guy, said he would get his apprentice to do it. Rode away happy.
Need new tires every season. Expensive bike but you don`t buy a Ducati to cheap out.

Going to win the 6/49. Buy another Ducati. Anybody want to be my friend? Sorry Ladies only. Lol.

Funny, a couple of years ago I bought two dunlops from royal, and took my wheels to Rosie Toes to replace the worn front tire and ok but 8-yr-old rear on my sportster.

After remounting the wheels and new tires, they felt very grippy and sticky vs the old tires - noticed pushing the bike out of the garage. I did take it easy but the grip on new fresh tires so exceeded the old ones, I'm now of the mindset to replace my tires on age (rubber hardness) vs tread depth.

For the 3rd time now I've boys Michelin and for the third time right out of the gate they were great. Unlike the others when you run your hand across them new there's nothing for residue. had them Installed and was on Hockley road 28 km later and they were perfectly fine.

As others have said though take it a little easy for a bit. Maybe even wash them off with warm water and soap using a scrubbing sponge or something.

Destroyed all the (right side) chicken strips on my PP3s within 3 days of owning them. +1 for Michelin
