Riding Down Under - Tropical Cairns Australia

Itchy Boots off her bike and going native in Yemen.

Some progress on getting my bike back.
It's still too stoopid hot to ride anyways

Too hot to sleep with a/c off 🥵...too cold with a/c on
Mind you I have the A/C on in my small room and it is only getting down to 27 ....that might work.🥱
I think the humidity set the fire alarm off last night ....we both felt the broken sleep.

Chasing instrument cluster for the CB500 today used as 6-8 weeks for a new one.
and my cheap Apple Watch died but have a line on a couple others for cheap.
$60 served me enough to know I need one. No wheels to go pick up is annoying

Bike back and useable. If I find a replacement cluster can get my deposit back as long as new one not shipped.
Of course I forgot my wallet but phoned in the card #
At least can ride on weekend

Things looking up. Found a Apple Watch SE in great condition for $130 was only posted 2 hours ago and snagged it.
Picking up before 10 tomorrow. if I get out early will ride for a bit.
Image

44 mm so the correct size, has a screen protector...no charger which is not an issue.
I will keep it likely as it's below market but also ordered a red version of a better watch

Image

Apple Watch Series 6 (2020) GPS 44 mm - Aluminium Red - No band in excellent condition.
with 1 year warranty and returnable for $247 shipped. The Series 6 is older than the SE for $130 but has a some extra features and is considered a better watch.
Will decide which to keep. I am VERY partial to red and I like the 1 year warranty. Going to definitely get a protector ( tho that's not why mine failed. )
and my bike is back in the driveway and rideable....just have to wait a few weeks for parts.

The world may be crumbling but MacDoc has his watch and mcycle...all is good

Always something. Got up and out early - picked up watch and it connected right away so headed out to get away from the sun which was already cooking me and I could not see the phone.
Turns out my "very nice lady" seller forgot to unhook it from her account.
Still chasing ...might have to go back for her to do it. :(.
Other than that small cheap lunch at Jacks ...good junior whopper, marginal fries and a latte for $6.50 - not the best deal but was hungry.
Could have done with just the burger and coffee.
Not sure if I'm staying out. Already hot but maybe head north for a quick ride to Craiglie and sit in the shade
Hot? yep nother mont of this. Nice lady is coming by to sort my watch.(y) Her dottor stuffed up.

Oh quit yer complaining. I'll take that instead of the figgin cold we have back home. The only time I minded a sweaty wet t-shirt was when I stepped into the air conditioned Cairns Central Shopping Centre.

I got back from Oz about a month ago and the only time I went out so far was to get groceries, Princess Auto, Cabela's and the dentist. Its a nice 27C on the Gold Coast and still 18C before the sun rises. All I needed there was a bed sheet covering me at night.

But I had to come back. I really missed Justin Trudeau's guidance. I was so lost without it.

Politics down yonder.

One of my more miserable rides today ...heat was NOT an issue. Good ride up the Gillies until I hit the dark cloud over Atherton.
Picked up the laptop I was after to replace the 27" iMac that got eaten by the tropics.
Have a 27" Dell I will use with the 15" Retina I picked up purely for random travel photos of which I have thousands. Had not realized how much I missed seeing the photos all the time - especially the kid  ready to head west.

Six hours on the bike was hard on me after very little riding. Navigating by sound to get to the guys place with the laptop....totally soaked.
Visor would not stay cracked ...one of the famous flaws of the C3 Pro...apparently there is a fix with ear plugs or o-ring to restore the friction. Given the price of the Schuberth they should supply the fix free instead of $35 + shipping.

Left Atherton, sun out got totally dried out cept mebbe the boots and hit the same misty rain at Kuranda along with an accident on the range. Was concerned as sign said OIL SPILL....hmmmm wet road and oil spill...but whatever it was was cleaned up - however took a good 40 minutes down the range in first gear.....glad to see the bottom. At least the rain was not too heavy but was totally soaked again by the time I got home and happy partner left the gate open.
Found out that Robaxin really works quick on a sore back.
Thinking I need risers but not sure there is enough give in the cables for a 20mm riser. Prefer 20mm up and back but that is unlikely.
Maybe when the instrument cluster comes in in a few weeks will get him to do the riser.
Quick nap, some crosswords with partner and feeling okay. :coffee:

Was concerned as sign said OIL SPILL....hmmmm wet road and oil spill...
Can't be much worse than a Meadow Muffin on a wet day in the Alps and there is no sign for those.

Found out that Robaxin really works quick on a sore back.
At your young age? That a piddly 181 km ride. We gotta talk! ;)

Got a pic from the Sky Rail of the road prior to it entering Smithville from Kuranda. A few nice twists in it.

Not sure what a Meadow Muffin is but green moss is a regular thing here and have a torn rotator cuff that still hurts a bit to remind me.
Newish bike to me and simply no ability to ride frequently ....a week off and it takes time to get back into things...shake the old bones into place.
Still a month to the end of the heat but looking okay for the next while. Even short rides help.
Yesterday was unexpected for the level of rain as was really nice ride up the Gillies then got wetter and wetter. Got nice and dry then soaked again.
At least with the heat no problem getting dry ...gear is completely dry this am cept for boots which take their time. With wool socks doesn't matter.

Very happy with the MacBook Pro 2015 15" I picked up. Mint and works perfectly for my use. Apple really screwed up moving away from that design. Have 20,000 plus of photos and miss seeing them. Ordered the 1 TB SSD blade for the 2015 today ..$111 new tax in ....how times have changed. This reminds me maybe a visit to Etty's Bay this week see how the cassowarys are doing. Love this shot

Appears the new ones corrected 10 years of stupid and very pleasant to use.
The 2023 13" Air I bought, ports, keyboard, charging all corrected and super light. Even Magsafe back. 1.24 KG. Nearly have all my tech gear sorted cept the instrument cluster which will get here eventually. Will just drive with traffic....just gotta watch school zones as they like to stick photo radar there.

Not sure what a Meadow Muffin is.
In the Alps, you'll find cattle in the fields and on the roads in the mountains, and when it rains that poop turns to **** as far as being slippery is concerned.

ah ....best avoided like green moss but not so likely to be on a twisty road up the range which it likes to lurk in the shade

Citizen duty done despite it would make little difference this time.

rather safe seat.

Good couple of short rides today - need more of those. Wore my Rev'it pants.
Lifetime warranty so if they split again .....I'm going to see about a leather patch to stop the unravelling but frankly a bit disappointed as lots of loose threads and worn very little.

Watch is back on my wrist and working with a screen protector in place.

all is well with my world and it's even cooler at 29 c in mid arvo

Hard earned 3.
Lovely day - two rides, voted in Canadian election and 3 on Wordle . :sneaky:
I tried the clear plastic cover for the watch but did not like it and it interfered with the lift to view which is instant without it. The OLED screen is so sharp and crisp it's a shame to put anything over it and this watch has very little use.

So figured must be a solution some protection for the edges but the screen stays visible with no cover.
Yup $11.35 shipped ....that's bumper and strap.

Had intended lunch with friend but he cancelled so napped morning/midday away.
All harnessed up with heart sensors for 24 hours. Might watch some late night TV as may be tricky to sleep with the wires.
Marc has picked up a cute motovlogger from Turkey ...years on the road and more to come she plans.

Mongolia all alone ...like the girl. Buddy here rides the same Aprilla Tuareg- clip along nicely at 110-130 she was rocking along with her hands off the bars. I see why my buddy likes the bike.
She previously had a Panigale

Get unwired tomorrow but no results till next month. Nice to have watch working again.
More civilized temps today.

Slept okay with the heart harness on and nailed Wordle

gusty days coming up but very rideable with the lower temps

Rain coming on the weekend but should get some saddle time in and do need to fetch my camera from buddy. No dental or medical til next month....can use the break. Will see how both elections play out. 🍿

and my PayPal disputes granted in my favour.
Got in a short ride today, dropped off the heart monitor bag that I forgot yesterday, picked up my camera and some loot I'd left with riding buddy and scored a double Jr Whopper on Hungry Jacks Shake n Win.
Tried to get a free small latte - they said no per usual with the really good deals and then gave me one off invoice anyways. ;)
So sat and pigged on two ...
Would be nice if they looked like this

had to peel the onions out of the second one - I like onions but my digestive track has other ideas. 740 calories for the pair....ate too much but had only one piece of toast and a small protein shake earlier in the day.
Sold my unused quality tripod that travelled all over the world with me to never be used. $120 I was happy to get....almost squared up the $130 for the SE 44mm series one watch I was happy to get.
Maybe I will put that up for $200 which seems the going price and see if I get a bite.
It's mint but the Series 6 has a few advantages I like including slightly better crash control. It was released in 2020 and so was the first gen SE as a budget model.
If I can get the Series 6 in the colour I want, with 1 year warranty for $47 more I;ll do that.

Sort of a downside is I buy buddy lunch to set up as my internet is not stable enough ....( don't go there ).Screen Shot 2025-04-07 at Apr, 7 2025 11.30.15 PM.jpg
I have to leave him my phone as well. First world problems. Off to Bowls Club to socialize....still stuffed from lunch.
