Ridiculously high quotes for a 250

Hi there,

I want to get a 2005 Ninja 250, and before the M2 I called SF for a quote and they said 1200. Now, I called them and they said that they cannot insure me because I don't have 6 years of driving experience. The only way they'd insure me is if I had other insurance with them, which, since I don't own a car or a house - I don't.
So I called Jevco and they said 3300, TD's online quote was even higher.

Seriously? The bike only costs like $2000, why is insurance up the *** for the 250?
I can't afford this nonsense.

If you really want to ride for next season buy a bike under somebody else's name that you can trust, preferably 30+ with full M and clean history. You'd be paying under $1,000 for a 250. Now its not legal for you to ride it on a regular basis, but if you get pulled over you can just say that you are trying out your buddy's ride. But if your going through all this trouble might as well get a 500-600 cc.

Not too keen on insurance fraud... so I'll try and find a way around that.
This weekend I'll ask my parents who they're with. I still haven't told them I got my M1, let alone my M2 so it's going to be a fun weekend all around. :p

First season's not pretty for anyone. Second season gets better as long as you behaved yourself

Good luck!

Tuition or bike insurance... hmmm.
At least I'll be the coolest looking bicyclist out there! What with my new Scorpion jacket and helmet.

Tempting.

Tuition or insurance you say?..i took late fees on part of my tuition to pay for insurance lol....hmm I know at ryerson there are a few girls that ride 250s i wonder who they're with...I could ask..and I heard if you go to York TD gives you big discounts...otherwise you're stuck being the bicycle girl with cool equipment lol... Also my agent (as promised earlier) Sabrina Paul 905 426 5959 however not until you have 5 years since your G1..

You know your getting great insurance advice from someone who has to sell their bike due to insurance problems........

its the insurance companies and ontario government thats committing the fraud

just sit on your m2 for a year then things will become affordable.. i was getting like 4k quotes as well when i was 18 and had just gotten my m2. After a year insurance was sliced to 1400 a year with TD MM.

Actually I'm just like you. I assume you go to Waterloo and parents live in Thornhill.
Same here. Waterloo engineering!

Although I'm in architecture, so I'm stuck in Cambridge...

Do you have any other insurance with them? How old are you? How long have you had your license (from G1)?

19, No insurance with them, and G1 since I was 16 so 3 and 1/2 years now.

Called a local broker today and got a quote for $2950 on a 250, $2500 on a 125, just shop around.

On a list of bad decisions in life, paying 3 k a year on bike insurance is one of them.
anyone can do the math and realize what that 3k a year turns into when you are 60.

And in terms of riding without insurance. Well that should be straight forward.
