Rider Down Hwy 7 & Hwy 50

Re: Rider Down

I heard about this all over the news that summer. It was one of the hot stories of that week. R.I.P rider.

Finally a more serious charge in a motor vehicle collision that caused death.

The only thing that I temper that statement with is the recognition of the numerous errors I have made in life where, but for the grace of God, I would be in the trucker's shoes. No winners anywhere on this. RIP rider and condolences to your family and friends.

Guilty plea to dangerous driving causing death. It's about time charges stiffer than failure to yield stuck. RIP Riccardo.

A dump truck driver has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death after a fatal crash in Vaughan nearly two years ago.

York police said Wednesday Jose Couto, 56, was sentenced to one year in prison and also received a six-year driving probation.

Riccardo Torchia, 30, who was riding a motorcycle, was killed on Aug. 2, 2011.

Torchia, an off-duty officer with Toronto Police, crashed into the dump truck as it was turning left from Highway 7 into a private driveway, near Highway 50.

Torchia was pronounced dead at the scene.
