TURNERS CORNERS - Serious injuries are being reported in a motor-vehicle accident which occurred this morning near the intersection of Merrittville Highway and Regional Rd. 20 in Thorold.
The crash is believed to have involved a pickup truck and motorcycle.
Details from police are unavailable at this time, but a driver who was just behind the crash at Turners Corners told QMI Agency he was on his way to work at about 7:15 a.m. when a truck in front of him hit the brakes.
“It happened really quickly,” said the man, who did not wish to be identified. “People ran out from the side of the road to help.”
Witnesses were providing First Aid, doing chest compressions and rendering other aid, said the witness.
“They were working quite hard on him,” said the witness

Reports indicate at least one person was transported to the Welland hospital with critical injuries. News Talk 610CKTB reports the motorcycle driver has died.

So because the paper is unclear, RIP Rider, hope its not that way though

Fatal crash in Pelham

Siobhan Morris, 610 CKTB News

Police releasing a few more details into a fatal collision in Pelham this morning.

Investigators say a 47 year old St. Catharines man riding his motorcycle on Merrittville Highway collided with a pickup truck driven by a 21 year old Welland man in the intersection at Regional Road 20around 7:15.

Police say the truck was attempting to turn left into the westbound lanes of RR 20 when the motorcyclist struck the front passenger side of the vehicle ....throwing him from his bike.

The rider was critically injured and was taken to Welland General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck and a 20 year old passenger were not injured.

No names have been released at this time.

Acting Detective Sergeant with Niagara Regional Police Jeff Inch says although police are still investigating, it doesn't look like either vehicle was going at an unusual speed. Alcohol was not a factor.

The investigation closed parts of Merrittville Hwy & RR20 for much of the day. The roads re-opened shortly after 1pm.

Sent from my calculator, using skills.

R.I.P., my condolences to his family and friends. This has been a terrible and sad start to the riding season. Ride safe everyone. :(

I ride the same model of Beemer. I always think I'm safer because of ABS brakes etc. but all it takes is to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
This accident has reinforced the need for all of us to be on guard when you get to an intersection.

RIP
