Ride into and around detroit

I had a job where I had to survey roads in Detroit. It was a memorable experience. It seemed that every other street had mountains of **** lying across the road, preventing the truck I was in from passing by.

One day the transmission of the truck started to grind badly, so my colleague and I pulled over to wait for a tow truck. Whilst we were waiting, gunfire broke out! We started the truck and got the **** out of there, transmission grinding all the way!!!

True story.

someone reported the image. It is now blurred out now.
I think they should've leave it to let others know what they are getting into

Interesting read

not too bright to point a shotgun from your house at a van taking pictures that will be posted on the internet.

this thread has made me realize how fortunate i am to survive driving through detroit local roads at 11pm back in March....

If you end up doing this ride, PM me and I can recommend some places to visit.

Jane & Finch is a rough area for Toronto, but it is childs play compared to Detroit.

The not stopping at red lights is a pretty regular occurance at all hours of the day in certain parts. When you see cars pulling up to you really close with 2% tint on all windows including the entire front windscreen, you get a bit nervous.

If you want to do the urban slumming thing, early morning is best. All the gangsters and junkies are asleep.

I just panned to get different shots of the guy.
If u look closely, u can see the guy with the shotgun change pose to point his gun at the google van.
Pure ***** & giggles

lmao so glad you mentioned that. The driver must have been crapping his pants.

OP, I would go with you if it weren't a weekend trip. I always hear such stories and I wonder if Detroit is really THAT bad.

I like travelling to different cities and I always try to see the slums. It helps me put things in perspective when I travel. Obviously, don't forget to dress down and look normal.

If going during the week's a possibility, I can try and find a couple more people who are willing to go. Hopefully we don't end up on the news :p

Anyway, if you decide to go, ride safe & have fun.

If/when i go it will be with 5-10 people
leavinge here very early
rout planned out and a pick up following.

Because of this thread, I went for a drive through the area adjacent to Krainz woods...adjacent because I'm not brave/suicidal enough to drive through Krainz woods. It is the same old scene. At 8pm, mostly junkies and gansters out. Sometimes I can't tell the difference. The place looks like a complete war zone. It is mesmerizing and terrifying all at once.

If/when you go, I would suggest having your friends from Detroit follow or join the ride. Even better if they have a CCW. Michigan is open carry, but open carry is not permitted in vehicles.

Pics??

If u get off your bike and draw, would that be "in vehicle?"

No pics, too dark and snapping photos in this area will just draw the wrong type of attention. That and the car I am currently driving has manufacturer plates, so it sticks out a bit.

If you get off/out of vehicle and draw I don't think that would be "in vehicle." You just have to be able to draw before you eat it from a glock 17 or an ar15... full auto's are common place in the city.

for your enjoyment:

will be fine
I grew up in rexdale and jane and finch.
riding through detroit is fine. I also have buddys who live there so we can stop for a BBQ for lunch

There are much worse places than Rexdale and Jane & Finch.

But then again, if you're travelling in a pack, it should be fine.

I've seen worse streets in East Vancouver.

Thats what I was thinking. Was there in August at night with the gf's family. Parents in the car told the kids "This is what happens when you get "C's" in school...

There were drug dealers w/ shopping carts with endless amount of people going up to them at every street corner, prostitutes everywhere, and cops within a block of each other but obviously can't do anything about it. (Would just be giving the homeless a nice place to sleep).

As stated above, Toronto "bad areas" are nothing... Mostly full of wannabes.
