Riddle me this.

If I don't get detonation, we're getting into trees falling in forests with nobody to hear territory...

Mostly yes but computers are getting smarter so theoretically it could be pulling timing and therefore reducing power to avoid detonation. I doubt many tunes would be that close to the edge.

What if a bike takes diesel? Does the above theory still apply?
Asking for a friend.

Do bikes do that? I know lots of cars and trucks have knock sensors, but I didn't think bikes were there yet...

It's even more academic in cars, though, because the larger volume makes the 1.25 litres of regular even less of a factor...

Bruce Cockburn fan.
Was actually thinking the philosophical question, but now I'm definitely going to put that song on. Haven't heard it in ages...

Sorry Haven't a clue what that meant other than I would assume they all use premium

Now we're somewhat convolutedly getting somewhere. You pull in, and if you see a car that uses premium pulling out, you use that pump. The station is required by law to leave the dollar and liter amounts on the pumps until the next customer uses it in case of disputes between the pump and the till (the pump is trump). No cars at the pump when you pull in? Some simple inverse math ($ divided by liter) and you can tell what the price per liter was and therefore what grade the gas that was pumped was.

My BMW takes 91 and will rat you out at the dealer when they hook it to the computer if you decided to save money on a few fillups.

My F150 takes 120L at a fillup, if there was any 91 left in the hose from a GT3 fill up its almost negligible at volume of dilution.

Wait for the electric cars geeks to start arguing about the sine wave of the electricity they receive at their home charge station. (pure sine wave is faster)

Actually if I fill up at the station nearest me ( west oakville) , the last 15 cars to fill up would be a combination of Benz, Porche, BMW and Maseratti .
Is there a formula to average down if everyone in your nieghborhood drive euro premium eaters?

You should fill up 1L of the lowest fuel from each hose anytime you go there, depending on the size of the gas station you could get 15-20L of premium for the price of ethanol.... I'm posting this deal on redflagdeals, which location is it?

Trick question, the answer is that all the fuel at the pump has enough alcohol in it to destroy your engines fuel system.

Any modern engine can handle ethanol just fine.

And Shell and Canadian Tire premium (and ONLY those two contrary to a lot of old info online) is ethanol free.

When did costco get ethanol? Afaik, costco premium is still ethanol free.

It's no longer marked as ethanol free. From what I've been able to gather it sometimes is, and sometimes isn't. Since there's no guarantee anymore it's no longer marked as such.

Definitely not a place to go if you *need* ethanol free, IE the last fillup of the season on a motorcycle or seasonal engine before storage.

If it's sitting any length of time, yeah, it pays to get no ethanol.

If you're burning several tanks in a day and you want to save a few bucks, well, run the cheap stuff until the last tank. When we used to use our Jetskis somewhere with fuel available I'd run 87 all weekend but on the last fillup of the weekend I'd get the premium no ethanol. Did that for many years with no issues.

Here's what the gas pumps along the US Eastern seaboard look like recently.
