Requesting visual evaluation of a bike I want to buy.

So where's the deal. I saw a 650 I want to buy. It's a bit of a drive to go see, so I want to narrow it into the 'do not buy' or 'possibly buy' list. The bike has scratches, which the owner brought forward, and I want an opinion if there could be underlying damage from some serious drop, or accident. Considering the fairings are still intact, and you can trace the scratch line, I wouldn't deduce he had a serious fall and replaced any components.

If you'd spare a moment of your time, I'd post you a link to the pictures. I don't want to do it here in case the guy is on here, nor do I want to bike to be bought.

So, if you're a regular, and can be trusted, please PM me so I can steal a moment of your time.

Thanks.

You may get more response if you at least indicate the general region the bike is located in.

Any person here now who's selling a 650, is now going to PM u.

I have dropped my bike at standstill and I know what those scratches are like if that helps. Did the buyer tell you the drop happened at speed or from standstill?

ppost up the pictures.

Why? He/She is asking you to look at pictures, not go out and look at the bike in person.

Mmm. Sorry, not used to the cloak-and-dagger approach. I have scouted local bikes for other people who were some distance away as internet pictures are next to useless in determining the real condition of anything. I guess I assumed the pics would be a prelim to an in-person eyeballing. My mistake.

Where are the scratches located?

Rule of thumb is always assume bike has been dropped. And let's put it this way. If you dropped your own bike, would you stop riding it and sell it right away?

Then again, context required.

Like someone said in another thread, some people do not like the stigma of a scratched bike. It hurts their pride. It hurts their chances of getting laid. It provides an opening for people to think youre a terrible rider without knowing the story.

Me? I don't care. As I told someone else, scratches are scratches. I'm not in it for looks. If I was, I'd continue riding my cbr125, all black, with a sticker. Plus, it's not like it's going to deter me from getting laid. I'm practically married, so I'm not getting laid anyhow.

Thanks to everyone who responded, I got my mind made up.

Well wishes.
