Removed catalytic ticket, EPA (not HTA) s22.(3), will it count against insurance?

I'm a newbie to bikes and knew that most bike mufflers contain a catalytic converter. Although this is the first time I've heard of anyone getting a charge for removing it.

Cars have a big label under the hood describing the major components of the emission control system - I can't recall ever seeing such a thing on any motorcycle.

There is a schematic layout of the emissions system on my bike, a 2011 Moto Guzzi, as a sticker under the seat, so there is at least on manufacturer providing this information for roadside law enforcement. It is possible that the OP's charge may be related to the EVAP system and not the catalytic system.

Very, very few bikes in Canada will have an EVAP system. This is generally only found on bikes sold in California.

The cop said in reply "When someone has a muffler that is too loud, we just write em the three tickets now, $110 noise, $110 muffler, $365 emissions. So a cop, admitted to not knowing a damn thing about engines, and gave your buddy tickets based on no knowledge whatsoever?? A parrot with Down's Syndrome could get this one thrown out...

(P.S. The cop said as soon as he walked up to him, that their conversation was being recorded! First I've ever heard of this. Do you think I could request the audio tape with disclosure??)

Do it, I would, as it should lend itself to your buddy's defence i.e. random ticket being written because bonehead *thinks* he knows stuff about stuff.
