A lady I know slapped her daughter's boyfriend for being a class A jerk. Proving she was right, he charged the mother with assault. A number of supportive people wrote letters of support, including me.
I wrote that I had known the family for XX years and violence was never an issue. The lady was always friendly and helpful etc. She got off with a bond of some sort and nothing permanent on her record.
The HTA charge is different as the POS law is so vague it could have been anything so a defending letter could be counter productive. Writing that the employee cheers up coworkers by standing on his chair as it rolls down the aisle wouldn't fit well if he was charged with a Jesus maneuver.
A speeding charge at fishing hole or an "Out accelerating" charge where someone has to be first off the line is a different matter.
A hard nosed magistrate might rule that no situation justifies breaking the law and the charge stands. However the fine could be reduced or the charge lowered to a lesser offense under the right circumstances.
The guy is already punished by the roadside suspension and impound. Getting off just affects a second punishment by the court and a third one from insurance so help him out if at all reasonable.
Words like diligent, prudent, reliable, help if appropriate as does a clean abstract.
