hey all,got the flashes crossing a red...anyone ever got one? Do they send you a ticket, and you goto court? how does it work? i remember it is useless since they can't poof who is driving.anybody got one?
i read that if you pay it,is just like a parking ticket, but if you take it to court it can stay on your record? WTF??

It doesn't affect your insurance because they can't prove who's driving, but does cost the vehicle owner money as they don't need to prove who is driving. It is up to you as the owner to collect from the driver if you want.

I may theoretically have been flashed once but never received anything in the mail. I have no idea if you can successfully fight them in court.

Flashes just mean they took a picture, if the pictures do not show you clearly behind the line and then clearly ahead. They dont' mail you the ticket.
I have seen people that stopped just a bit far then just sit there and take 2 flashes.

Just pay it if you get it.

you must have been in your car? because the sensors dont pick up the bikes. i came to an intersection for the left turn signal, the lights cycled through, and i didnt feel like sitting for another 3 minutes, so when the way was clear i took the turn, and the camera's didnt flash. two other riders pulled up beside me and still no green arrow, they waited a bit longer to see if i got flashed then they went through too.

They rotate the x number of cameras among y number of camera housings throughout the city. You may have just been lucky enough to go through when the camera box at that particular intersection was empty.

yes you are right on that, but the sensor didnt know i was there, or it would / should have given me the green arrow for the left turn. verified by the lack of the camera flash.

I used to work in Brampton and would get the flash often on the way home eastbound Steeles turning north on Goreway. Have never got a ticket in the mail. A cop friend of mine told me that an officer actually has to review every picture and decide if a ticket gets sent out or not. If you are over the line before the red you are fine. As long as the light is green or yellow when you cross the line you shouldn't recieve a ticket.

The ticket goes to the registered owner of the vehicle, not whos driving. (From what I've heard)

Because, as stated above, they can't identify the driver via red light camera. It's a non-points ticket that follows the vehicle, not the driver.

I was once sitting at an intersection when an ambulance came sailing through and got flashed. I always thought their strobe lights disabled the cameras and caused the lights to change in their direction.

Only if the lights, at the intersection, are equipped to do so. Not all are.

Ordinary strobes do not affect traffic light. Opticom-like systems do. I don't think ambulances are equipped with the Opticom traffic light priority activators needed to change the lights as they approach. Police cruisers are not. Fire trucks, yes.

Well, you learn something new everyday.

Unrelated; I also didn't know that Paramedics were not an essental service.

That is correct. Only the lights from a firetruck will change the traffic lights. It has to do with the (I apologize for ignorance of the lingo) phase of the strobe lights on the firetrucks. Each emergency vehicle type (police, ambulance, etc.) have different phases. Firetrucks are setup in the intersection cameras programming as they are typically called out for all "major" emergencies and are usually the first on the scene and are able to perform most paramedic tasks.

You can create a strobe light system to setup in your car if you know what the phase for the local FD is, and have the proper filter over it (the strobe light). It will change the light, but will get you into a heaping dose of trouble if caught.

A few FD are moving away from the opticom system .. and are using GPS signals and some software program thru the city engineer office. It detects the fire trucks direction, and before it comes close to a particular intersection will change the light to green for the oncoming fire apparatus.

There is no "phase or filter" .. it based on the number of flashes per minute, and the angle of the opticom. Even if you bought one, your car would sit to low to operate the switcher on the traffic light. AND everyone and their grandma would see it operating and call it in. Try explaining that to the cop who pulls you over ..

i hurd that a tv remote controller will work with the right signal. havent tryed it yet.

Hmm, no wonder stopping for red lights seems optional here. No one is ever held responsible... In Australia the Owner of the vehicle is charged and points deducted. Only way to get out of it is if he has proof (ie: Stat dec from someone else saying they were the driver, or passport stamp showing they were out of the country). You do the crime you do the time.

My father in-law got cleaned up by an idiot running a red light a couple months ago and is still on painkillers and now needs a walking aid. Sorry to say it but ive seen 3rd world countries with better driving standards then Toronto. Road rules here are almost non existent but everyone seems to think they are getting picked on if they get pulled over breaking them.

Anyway rant over, just sick of seeing cars almost killing someone every time I leave the house here.

And that's un upside-down standard of proof, that shouldn't be permitted in any free country. If our police weren't hobbled with the demand that they enforce speed limits, to the virtual exclusion of all else, they might actually be around to charge for things like running red lights.
