Red Bull Indianapolis GP 2013

where did you clear US customs? did you screen in Pearson ( which is a long way from the derry rd charter load) or did they accomodate in Indy? The price is not bad (for a chartered jet) , citation is about 2k an hour to run and they have about an 8k minimum to put it in the air when I checked.

You clear customs before you leave by sending your passport in so you go up to Derry and get right on plane 10 mins before you go. When you land in Indy customs comes out to you on the plane if needed. On the way back the pilot called in before landing and asked customs if they wanted to see us, they said no, but they would usually come out to the plane too. Phenom 100 is very cheap to operate compared to a citation. I know I could probably get the price down to 6 or 7 grand now that I found who actually owns the plane not just going thru a booking company.

Drove down and back for the first four years. We didn’t go last year. Even towed a bike down one year. Long story with a very happy ending. Always stayed where the main Ducati group was and always had Ducati grandstand “Project Mugello” tickets. Never had any problems or issues in Indy but the border crossings going into the US has been a different story two out of the four years.
We have always driven down on Thursday and come home on the Monday. Lots to do and great places to eat when not at the track.

That's very civilized. I'm always surprised at the "multi tiered system" , we sail our boat into American waters several times a summer, to clear US customs when you dock you go to a phone and call, they may ask you to stay with the boat till somebody comes over, or not. Coming back to Canada you call when you make land and they say they "may" send someone to check, element of surprise. Really makes you wonder why car traffic is so difficult sometimes.

Civilized is the word.

Jeero and myself will be going this year. It's our first MotoGP race each, so were quite excited. We are both riding down from St. Catharines on the saturday, then taking the back roads back home for a longer but more enjoyable ride

08,09,10,11 I rode down and back. But I leave a week beforehand and head south thru NY,PA,MD, WV, then west thru KY en route to Indy. I stay in Indy for the weekend then bee line it home in 8 hrs. My best tour every yr for sure.

Once I get across to border south of Buffalo I stay off 4 lane roads, and stick to the absolute gnarliest roads I can find until I am an hour southeast of Indy, where you are forced to ride straight flat roads again. On the way home I simply drove along the Interstates and the 402/401/403 till I get home.

Been down twice, if you don't have the time to take backroads, in my opinion, it's a horrible ride. Crossing at Buffalo it's freeway all the way, boring, flat, and all the trucks you can handle. Indianapolis, again in my opinion is a pit, with the exception of the race track and the fairgrounds (where the mile flat track race is) the place is horrible. The racing is great, obviously the best in the world, however Indianapolis is not the best in the world. It will be very hot (that's okay) it will rain (thunderstorms) and you can not buy beer on a Sun. only at a restaurant or at the track. No alcohol sales on Sun. at state stores, because this is one of the most conservative states in the country, you wouldn't think that but it is the truth and the whole state appears to be as flat as Sask. So if all that matters is the racing go, but don't go thinking it will be a great roadtrip. Imagine riding to Windsor and back 4 times on the 401, not my idea of fun. But I'm a crabby old guy.

FJGeezer makes Indy the city sound awful.
I have enjoyed it very much every time I am down there.
Up here, moto enthusiasts are treated like outcasts and hooligans. In Indy, the people all have gasoline int heir veins....racing is their culture, and they show you courtesy and are genuinely interested in motorsports 10x more than Ontarians. Everyone walkign down the street likes your bike. Every waitress wants to know what you thought about the races this afternoon, etc.

I 100% wanna go and will not miss going this year....ride(sport bike) or drive(sedan). Would like to head down with others, especially that have gone before. Up for just about anything....tent/hotel/ride/drive/etc....live in Kitchener.

The biggest bike night i have ever seen on the Sat in Indy, Every bike from mild to wild. Going this year again.

Last year was the first year we went dove down on fri after work it took around 8 hrs crossed over at sarnia and the hwy in michigan is bad after michigan the roads are better. As for seating we had motoGP paddock passes which are sick to see the behind the secne stuff, the seating is not the best its the inside of the front stretch above the pits all thats visible is the front stretch and a turn 2-4. we also had general admission the best seats we found were on turn 14-16 the north west vista. you can see a good amount of the track at that point turns 10-1 a lot of good action at that point of the track.

Drove it last year in a car. I can't imagine riding down on a sport bike. Bike night at the circle is a must to ride to on a bike or to drive. I would trailer a bike if possible.

We must have crossed paths at one time. I always stay with the Ducati group in Indianapolis, own a F4 and drive the same car you do. Just funny.

I drove down two yrs ago and had a great time. We took the car though. If you don't have the time its all slab and could be boring, if you have extra time take backroads. As far as booze on sunday, buy it saturday.

This year i'm heading to Austin, flying though.

I have gone down most years and always have a great time. The people are friendly. Restaurants/hotels/food/drinks are cheap and the racing is great (love Moto2). Bikes on Meridian (bike night) is a great time. The Flat track racing is great. Wish I could have went to Austin (great track, expensive hotels, no cabs) just couldn't afford it.
