Went down taking only side roads, took about 14 hours. On the way back I used a lot of highway, was 10 hours. Don't stop to take pictures in rural Indiana, they will sick the Sheriff on you. Paranoid f***s.

I hope you have spare rims with you. They have some serious potholes on the highways especially in the Michigan sections.

Yeah, I did it in 2008, I remember bad roads right around Detroit where I crossed. Which reminds me, no bikes allowed in the tunnel, FYI.

I crossed at Sarnia on my way to Chicago last October. Highways all the way there were PERFECT, but inside Chicago were extremely bumpy. Aside from that, all the roads were amazing.

I guess I'm going this year
which section on track is the best?

and gonna plan to tank and air museum around there too

Went there and back 2 weekends ago. 23 hours straight. pretty straight. roads where in good shape

Getting back to the Omni at 1 am and seeing an 1198 on it's side in front of the hotel was not a pretty sight. A lot of hooligans around town that weekend. I wouldn't do it.

Find a motel with ground floor access to your room, nothing blocking the door, and park the bike inside the room.

Went down and back the same day last year on chartered jet. That was the best and easiest way if you can swing it. Phenom 100 that seats four was 8 grand. Get on plane 10 minutes before take off, land and have car waiting for you, leave Indy whenever you want, home in an hour and a bit

Is the champagne and caviar included, or extra cost? I'm shopping for the best deal.

Sorry, did you buy a plane to go to the GP? What is the reason for mentioning the 8 grand figure? That sure would be nice to fly anywhere and have car waiting for you, not really feasible for the average joe though..

I chartered it yes.
I mentioned if you can swing it and the price as I assumed people wouldn't be interested or would be interested in the cost. Just throwing an alternative to driving or riding for discussion sake. By the time you spend gas, food, lodging , wear and tear on the bike and your personal time , some want to pay the extra and go down and back fast. divide the plane by 4 people and split the cost. Yes I recognize its extravagant.

where did you clear US customs? did you screen in Pearson ( which is a long way from the derry rd charter load) or did they accomodate in Indy? The price is not bad (for a chartered jet) , citation is about 2k an hour to run and they have about an 8k minimum to put it in the air when I checked.
