Metzeler Lasertecs were some of the best and ugliest sport-touring tires I had...
The ugly tread pattern made them awesome when wet.

What kind of riding do you do? You'll always get a trade-off between grip and longevity. Most sport-touring tires today are great on sportbikes on the street. My opinion is sport tires are only required if you plan on tracking.

I have a set of Metzeler Z8's and have zero complaints about them. I think I've had them ~ 13K and I'll need to replace them early next season. Never had an issue with grip during spirited riding in Virginia/West Virginia. Rain performance is also very good -- I was passing cars on a secondary highway during heavy downpours ... and that was probably after 8K or 9K already on the tires!

I previously used to run Michelin 2CT's, but found the Z8's to have the same grip but better rain performance at a lower price and they last longer.

Need to refine your requirements.....how much importance do you place on corner carving vs tread life (they're "somewhat" mutually exclusive).

Sorry WobblyCat....I somewhat repeated your remarks (I had created my post but didn't send it before stepping out for lunch).

this season i have proved you don't need sticky tires to take corners hard.
running bt-23 and they haven't had problems running at the front of the packs.

no experience with tracking thou.

I did pretty well on my 023's this year too. got about 16,000 km out of them and they should handle just about anything anyone can throw at them on the street. Just be careful in the wet on them, they didn't impress me much with the wet traction.

Anyone has any experience with Dunlop Sportmax Qualifier tires? My '08 CBR came with them. Haven't had a chance really to ride the bike and have a feel for these tires.

Feedback on internet seems to be good.

Had them on my 600 after power pure. Quite the drop in feel and grip from the michelins. Q's is supposedly another story

I ride an cbr f4. On my last change (rear only) I switched from the Pilot Power 2ct to the Pilot Road 3. The Road 3 has the 2ct compound, but also boasts :

  • Unrivalled grip in the wet, thanks to revolutionary X-Sipe Technology

  • Unbeatable tread life from Michelin's latest-generation 2CT dual-compound technology

Yes, it's a funny looking tread (based on the Power), and you'll have to admit to everyone that you switched from a performance tire to a sport touring tire. As for the claim of unrivalled grip in the wet - I ride in a lot of rain and cold. I have never had more confidence from a tire in the rain. I'm looking forward to changing the front for the spring.

Can't comment for sure on the wear just yet.

This is the only tire thread I've seen on any forum in the last year other than dirt/adventure forums where the PR3's didn't make up 95% of the recommendations...

+1 for the Pilot Road 3's. Currently on Michelin Pilot Power 2ct's but when they run out I will definitely be going to the Road 3's. Everything I have heard about them is they are a step up from the Power 2 and everyone I know that has ridden the Power 2 had nothing but good things to say about them

Was picking between Pilot 2CT and Pirelli Rosso II last year. Love my Rosso II tires, great for touring, cornering, warm up quickly, wear also seems to be very good.
