Can anyone reccomend some upper body armour? I was looking at alpine stars Bionic 2 but wanted to hear what others thought before I pull the trigger.

I was thinking about jackets but I don't see any issue with wearing stuff over the armour, in fact I prefer it and upper body armour appears to be higher quality than what you get with most jackets.

Regret to inform that most people on this site hate on the body armour. Hate hate hate. I sorta do myself.

I'd go leather jacket. Get a 2 piece that you can zip the pants on/off of if you ever:
-plan to do a track day
-ride like an idiot for fun

Leather jacket with armours offer better protection. If you can, you can upgrade the armours that come with the jacket.

Having said that, I have a Fox Titan body armour that I'm trying to get rid of if you're interested. I felt that body armour looks nicer and would offer good protection, but I feel safer in leather.

What hate? well I suppose if you consider icon field vests body armor...

A proper jacket with shoulder/elbow pads and a back/chest protector added is a good setup.

Isn't that armor stuff meant to be worn under a jacket? I think that is why there is all the hate. People wear just the armor that is supposed to go under a jacket and then think they're actually wearing full gear. Most of the time they don't even have anything on their arms at all.

lol, just get a proper jacket...safe and looks better.

or you can do the armor thing...it looks "sweet" :lmao:

I think that for chest protection, good body armor might be better than a jacket, but otherwise the jacket will almost certainly offer better protection.

A Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket is good for almost all weather, and saves you the screwing around with separate armor & jacket. With the removable panels zipped off, it's a nice cool mesh jacket, and with the panels on and liners in, it's good for rain and cold.

But get what you like, and don't worry about the haters. Personally, I think that the Icon Field Armor Vest looks badass, and I'm a mature rider in my 40's who should know better. ;) You have to give very, very serious thought to abrasion protection, though - riding without is a formula for some serious agony if you ever go down.

Excellent protection from head to knee even.

+1 that stuff is designed to go under a jacket. If you wear it without a jacket you look like an idiot.

Did some research last year and picked up an airbag jacket. Solid concept, with lots of good reviews and vids online. Only downside it that they are pretty bulky where the Co2 cartridge goes.
