Rear spools and crash protection

Are rear spools necessary for crash protection and if so, which ones work best?

I do not need them for rear stand purposes; recently, after a small low side, my rear spool snapped right off leaving the screw inside. I'm beginning to wonder if it would have been worse if it didn't snap off similar to what happens when no cut frame sliders.

Spools aren't really going to do much in the case of a crash. If you want, you can get something like Lightech chain adjusters and slider kit, or Gilles, or Driven, etc...

You just have to look at the spool location on Gixxer and they snap. Such poor design. But ya, try what Mina said.

+1 happened to my friend and personally seen the spool location snapped off on 2 other bikes.

I've been looking into those but can't really justify the price =(

Rear axle sliders saved my swingarm and spools from damage!

I'll look into these as well. I know Mina's suggestion has adjusters that act as a rear slider as well.

I have woodcraft spools on my r6, after a lowside crash downtown, my bike slid about 60 feet, only damage was it grinded the frame slider as well as the woodcraft spool and the stator cover. Definitely worth the money.

Did another pine cone get you?!?

Yes, there was a treant chasing me that was throwing fiery pine cones. It caused my rear tire to explode and a massive low side.

lol no for real my condolences

I've seem some big spools and some smaller ones. It depends by brands, mine are of minimal size and I doubt they will save anything even at a driveway fall.

:lmao: The way that rider fell it's almost like the pine cones magically turned into a thick stick and shot between the rims.

I have Yoshimura Cut Sliders on my Ninja 300. Along with those, I have Pitbull delrin spools (but they are so tiny that I really doubt they'd do much of anything) and I have front axle sliders by R&G - which I also now question seeing them in person. I have not fallen yet so I cannot attest to how they work but I guess that is a good thing for now. I also have "foldable" levers above my HVMP Extra Heavy Bar Ends, so if/when I go for a slip and slide, I'll hopefully come out of it well and appreciating the investments I made. I would probably but rear axle sliders too but I haven't been able to find one for my bike.

I had to remove the video because I noticed a bunch of 250s **** talking about it.

I'll put it back up when I get track day videos up (mid-late July) so the 250s know to stfu :agave:

The pine cone crash? I was gonna roll backwards after completing that turn in the gif; thought I could just roll over the pine cones but one got caught on the front and down I went! lol

Do you still have the same bike, look like a R6?

Because of you I haven't/won't ever go over a pine cone

Have you ever gone over one again just for spite?

Yes, and yes.

I, sometimes, run them over in the parking lot when driving (car). The scary part is, most of them don't get crushed unless you sit on top of 'em for a while.
