really poor customer service

Perhaps the first dealer was busy dealing with customers and not returning emails, and the second one you visited, they were all busy replying to emails. Maybe you are hard to please. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Snow city is a good dealership. I've dealt with Andy from sales on a few occasions and have nothing but good things to say. I've also spoken to Rocky and he seemed quite friendly. Snow city is great because they don't pressure their customers at all. If you're legitimately interested in a bike, go in and see it. Then, if you like what you see, approach a sales person and ask. I prefer sales people leave me alone until I'm ready to inquire. I guess that's why I like Snow city.

+1 on great experiences with Snow City.

I've had nothing but great experiences with all of the guys there -- very professional, and I've never had problems with them returning calls.

Mike even went the extra mile when I picked up my 250R there (first bike back in 2010), delivering it to my doorstep and giving me some quick lessons and advice for riding. He wouldn't leave until he was satisfied I'd be alright with the bike -- more than I can say any other dealership would've really bothered with.

As I mentioned, I spoke to two salespersons and their body language and attitude left me with no doubt that I was bothering them. IMHO a person in the showroom should take precident over emails. All I needed was a smile and "I'll be with you in a minute" and they would have sold a bike. Not too much to ask for, I think....

I've never had a bad experience at Snow City, never bought a bike but have bought lots of parts. They really are the benchmark for bike shops around here.

Whenever I go in, there's an older sales guy, shaved head with glasses, always says hi and asks if I need help

IMO I guess I got him on a bad week or month or something... either way I wasnt being picky, just thot if I am buying something the least is I expect is them to tell me, hey listen I'm a bit busy ill get back to you today or tomorrow.. not "I'll call you back in an hour" n have me wait ...just brought my business somewhere else. Simple.

I think you're just like the salesmen you're complaining about.

What's the point of a forum like this if you refuse to name the dealerships, (-despite repeated requests)? Just trolling?

I'll +1 that. I bought a 250R from Mike last year and he was always very helpful. I rode the bike from the dealership and I got the sense that he wanted to be sure I could handle it. The parts and service people aren't quite as friendly, but I also assume they don't work on commission...

This kind of crap goes on all the time. I was at Snow City looking a the Concours and was not even asked if I needed help. I was not too impressed with a major eyewear chain when I was looking in the locked "expensive" cabinet for a pair of designer sunglasses. The salesman were too busy chatting to ask me if I needed any help. Their conversation ended to ask if I needed any help while I was exiting their store. Really, you want my business now, I said - why didn't you ask me while I was standing in front of the cabinet?

If the OP does not want to name the companies in question, why don't we mention dealerships where we did get treated well...

Although this may not be true for everone, I got great customer service at http://www.powersportscanada.com/new_vehicle_category.asp, http://www.freaknleather.com/, http://www.gpbikes.com/, and http://www.northernmotorsports.net/.

I bought from Burlington Cycle based on the recommendation from a friend. They gave me a good deal, also mentioned that he delivers bikes for people that are further away because they (read: me) are nervous about driving on highways with first bike, I am in Caledonia so it is a good boot. Was an extra $100, but I was happy to pay it. They had the bike to me within 2 days of my paying, and also gave me an extra year warranty for free.

I'm surprised that Rocky never called you back. Always seemed like a nice bloke to me.

Anyway, I've only dealt with Hans, and if I ever buy another Yamaha it will be from him, (-a great guy!!). My buddy bought an R1 from him and it was a very positive experience. He's fun to be around, too---always cracking jokes.

For parts I've been dealing with Roger at Snow City for years. I really like this dealership overall. I always get a good vibe when I walk through the door.

I bought my 400R from Hans too, fantastic guy (and a Dutchman to boot!) I wasn't comfortable riding my first bike home so he even dropped it off at my house (on a Sunday no less!) would definitely buy from him again.

Damn! I should start using my trailer for a bit of extra coin.

On the salesman help; I hate having a salesman hover and I'm sure I give off that vibe (I certainly do when they ask) and then when I'm ready to talk, will just go up and ask, then it's on my terms. The way I look at it is that if you just stand there waiting you're likely the same guy who stood at the side of the dance floor at school dances while everyone else had fun.

That said, walking up and making it obvious that you're there to talk and having the salesman ignore you is not too impressive on their part!

i had a wierd experience with a sales guy at the now defunct powerhouse dealer in ajax / whitby ...

I went in with 2 friends to look at the CBF1000. I liked it, I looked at it and for an impulse buy I was ready. So I said to my buddies, ok lets get this. My other friend says just sit there and I'll grab a sales guy for you. Sales guy comes over we talk and we go into the guy's office with my 2 buds. So he lays down the numbers, I'm ok with them. He asked if I was cashing it ? I said sure but I might trade in my current bike, how much is it worth (This was in Dec. of 08 and I had a 08 FZ6). I liked his offer on the trade and so I said "ok, I dont' like the color you have out there, I just want you to get me the first RED one you guys get. we can sign paperwork now and you can come over and get the FZ6 today as part of your trade" ... then he says to me (and this is the part that baffles me) he says "are you sure you want this ? maybe you should go home and think about it?" ... WTF ?! who says that ? At that point I've been riding I think 12 yrs and every bike I've bought is almost on impulse... so I went home and didn't buy it...

WTF who says that ? lol

Don't want to name the dealers, but I called the sales manager yesterday and left a message about what transpired. Haven't heard anything and don't really expect to. I'll take my money elsewhere. I really just posted this because I couldn't believe the lack of enthusiasm for paying customers..

If you don't want to spit out the name of this bad place then you deserve the treatment you received.

ok dude .....name the dealerships or get off the pot!

Wow! First time checking the thread in a week and can't believe some of the comments. I wasn't really sure if naming the dealers could somehow get me into trouble was my original reason for not doing so. For those who genuinely wanted to know, the first dealer who never responded to emails was GP Bikes and the really rude guys were at Ready Honda in Mississauga.
That being said, I should be the proud owner of a 2002 Honda VTX 1800 in a week or so...

That's Hans, the resident Dutchman. Great guy.

First, Snow City, GP and Edge Performance have always been courteous and helpful to me; so I keep putting cash in their pockets. Good shops have (for the most part) consistently good reviews.

Second, I don't really get the stance of "I won't name this shop that was terrible". . .you might disagree, but I deem it a bit of a pussy move. Sack up and spit it out; if a shop has decent price points and good customer service, it then lives on. If reviews are negative, they either change or die. Not naming them gives no incentive to improve. Certainly some businesses don't care (remember the abomination that was Envy Rides? Pretty sure that place was staffed and owned by Jersey Shore rejects); but many care enough about their reputation to take feedback seriously.

I have bought too many vehicles to remember over the years and have found a few things:

When you want to purchase a vehicle get your top price in your head regardless of trade in, fees what ever they throw at you. Last car I bought was 12k used out the door, trade in included. I felt good doing it and the salesman sure made a mess of the contract to make it work.

Try not to buy a used vehicle from a dealer. I had issues, my friends had issues and this forum shows most everone has issues. I have bought many used bikes privately, just be sure to bring someone who knows bikes.

If you must buy from a dealer, make sure EVERYTHING is on the contract. Have them add what ever conditions you want on there, it is a legal binding contract and if the conditions are not met you can get out of it with all the money they took from you. I have backed out of 4 deals this way because they couldn't hold up their end of the bargin.

Buyer beware, remember, you have choices. Use them.
