really poor customer service

I am finally in the market for a bike after a prolonged absence. Emailed one dealer in the GTA about a bike and four days later there was still no response (never did get one). I spent thirty minutes at another dealer yesterday. There were at least five salesmen sitting at their computers and NOT ONE asked me if I needed help. I own my own business and strive to make my customers feel special which was how I expected to be treated. What a disappointment. I realize there are a lot of tire kickers, but I had my deposit money in my wallet. Auto Trader here I come....

Probably should be in the review section.

Dealership name?

Some people don't know how to run a business and some supervisors just don't have any idea what their employees are doing when they aren't there watching over their shoulder.

Did you try approaching a salesman and say, "Hello, I'd like to buy a bike?" I think that's the standard procedure.

That too.

Although, a decent salesman would approach the customer.

Yeah, it is the era of communicating by email, but really...if you really want to interact with someone, pick up the phone and call or go in and ask. It's not that hard, and hey, you'll find that you'll get further ahead in life when you can actually TALK to people. ;)

I'm the same way.. If I go somewhere to spend some money.. I look around.. I decide what I want.. and then I think I make it pretty obvious that I want some help.. waiting beside what I want.. staring down the salesmen.. tapping my foot etc LOL.. but I won't go ask.. I work in sales too and I earn my commission.. if they don't come offer me any service I walk out and shop elsewhere.

I agree with what your saying.. but I think that is Step 2. I'm not going to drive to every dealer ship to check out inventory and prices.. once i've got a response to my call or email.. I know you have what I want for a reasonable price.. THEN I'll go in, talk in person.. maybe negotiate a little.. but if you didn't respond to my email or help me over the phone you won't be on my list of places to stop..

I actually approached two and they barely looked up from their monitors. They REALLY gave me the feeling that I was bothering them.

I 100% agree, but I shouldn't have to work at giving someone $10,000.... John

The very act of standing and looking at bikes should be the cue for salespeople in a bike store to help someone. That is their job. Should the customer need to ask the obvious question, or are these salespeople simply lazy? I certainly would shop elsewhere.

If you are really upset simply call the store and ask for the owner, then give him an earful. This usually works except at Cycle World Superstore on Sheppard. The owner actually chewed me out because he was in a bad mood.

It would be helpful to tell us the store. No benefit can come from anonymity.

Don't want to name the dealers, but I called the sales manager yesterday and left a message about what transpired. Haven't heard anything and don't really expect to. I'll take my money elsewhere. I really just posted this because I couldn't believe the lack of enthusiasm for paying customers..

Every time i go into snow city (and i'm always just going to the parts dept) i get a hey how's it goin? from at least one salesman sitting at a computer. By the same token did you maybe just go up to a sales person and go "hey could you give me a hand for a minute?" Quite often they dont want to feel like they're harassing you if you're just taking a look around, and most likely a very small comment would get you great service. Now if you did that and they still gave you the brush off that would be a different story.

EDIT: missed this quote

Thats ******, i would have imagined it's hard to make a living as a motorcycle salesman, and that these guys would be more of a nuisance then uninterested. Oh well, their loss i guess.

When I used to work retail at Karbelt I would welcome cutomers and tell them where they could find me if they wanted help.I know myself that I cant stand salespersons hovering around me,so if I need one I will go get one no biggy. As for email,if its important I would rather call and talk to a person because alot of email will go into junk mail so its not the best way to get a hold of someone

I dunno if you've been to Burlington cycle yet or not but the guy there was very helpful and friendly to me. You might wanna give them a try.

I went to snow city looking for a ninja 250, wanted to also get a price on my trade-in so the guy said we need to setup and appointment with the tech. I said OK let me think bout your price n will talk.

Call him the next day, said OK let's get the ball rolling I want your bike. He said I'll speak with my tech people to setup your appointment n call you back in 1hour.

2 months to this day and I have not yet seen rocky from snow city pick up the phone and call me...glad I didn't wait on him or his team of sales

Same here. I left Rocky a message about wanting to buy a bike. Sent him an email. Then called and left a message but he never replied to either. Oh well lost a $7500 sale. And I'm glad cause if this is the kinda service they provide when sellin the bike I can only imagine how bad the after sale service would be.

I would never buy anything from Snow City that's for sure.

Same experience at snow city!
They must discriminate based on whether or not they "think" ur actually gonna buy.. It's 10 minutes away from me and figured it would be easier to bring my new bike home.. was literally standing in the show room floor for 15 minutes and no help. I ended up calling kahuna (45 minutes away) and bought my bike on the same day.

No need to complain, just take your hard earned cash somewhere else. In this type of economy these sales people are just ignorant. I'm sure a motorcycle salesperson isn't making money hand over fist.

I'm surprised that Rocky never called you back. Always seemed like a nice bloke to me.

Anyway, I've only dealt with Hans, and if I ever buy another Yamaha it will be from him, (-a great guy!!). My buddy bought an R1 from him and it was a very positive experience. He's fun to be around, too---always cracking jokes.

For parts I've been dealing with Roger at Snow City for years. I really like this dealership overall. I always get a good vibe when I walk through the door.
