Re: ATGATT - A poll, more or less

Seeing a disturbing trend out on the roads. Chicks on 125's in halter (sp?) tops? To those who ride squid, type "road rash" , "road-rash", "roadrash" into YouTube. I remember seeing one dude passing out from the pain as his buds poured alcohol on where his skin used to be. The problem with road-rash is that skin doesn't re-grow. It's not a "put a cast on it" sort of injury. It's months, years, a life-time of surgeries and pain. For what? The cost of a $50 mesh jacket? The mesh (unlike leather) will not stop all rash, but most of it as the typical contact points are armored. I see these CBR 125 chicks totally squid and can't help but think disaster is coming. Live and let live, yes, but listen and learn from your peers!

Re: ATGATT - A poll, more or less

A better question would be how many more of these threads are we going to have to put up with? What's the point of flooding the board with these?

Just wanted to get a poll going and not have a debate on this one. Oh and not hijack mbroydas thread.
If this has been done b4 then the mods can go ahead and delete this one.

Gotta head out in a bit ..... safe riding to all.

Re: ATGATT - A poll, more or less

I don't believe anyone other than possibly a new rider with no mentor will pay any attention to what someone advises them that's contrary to their current practice. They'll do what they do and rationalize their decisions.

I started ATGATT 34 years ago and have only worn more protection over time as better gear becomes available.

QFT.

If anything, reading a number of posts here has strengthened my own views on ATGATT.

I'm just here to watch folks take a p*** at each other and have a good laugh. Not really but none of the options make sense. How could I have been solely influenced by this thread when it only has 20 posts?

My views on ATGATT have been refined and condensed over time. Started out with ATGATT was jeans and jean jacket with gloves, helmet & boots and gradually migrated to Two piece leathers, Full face helmet, gauntlet gloves, close to knee high boots. I have a back protector that should fit into the leathers soon. No neck brace or airbag yet lol.

I don't really care what other people wear, but when they attempt to say that ATGATT is useless or they are such a great/careful rider that they will never need it, I feel a need to speak up.

Like this post below for instance. Grimace seems to imply that wearing gear will make no difference in your survivability if you fall off. He in fact doesn't even like helmets. One of my theories is that if you get a critical injury that almost kills you will want to survive, if you get the same injury and agonizing road rash you may feel like dying instead. This can affect your survival rate. People have slid down the highway on their leathers and gone in to work the next day others have slid down the highway on their skin and then went through months of painful skin grafts. I'd rather be in the former than the latter.

"agatt just makes it easier for the clean up crew. keeps everything altogether until it gets unzipped." Give me a break.

agatt just makes it easier for the clean up crew. keeps everything altogether until it gets unzipped.

leather racing suit= jazzed up body bag

its not the fall that kills you, its the sudden stop. will all the gear stop pain in the *** rashes and minor things ? probably.

but its not going to help if you fly off and hit a tree, or a truck, or get run over by a train, or from any other number of insane possibilites.

look at the number of riders in other countries that dont even wear helmets., personally , i wish we had that freedom of choice here.

What if someone only owns a helmet? Technically they are wearing AGATT and squiding.

Re: ATGATT - A poll, more or less

who give a crap what other people wear, i was out tonight in my jeans t and sneakers with NO socks no gloves and no back protector, yes i know what its like to be down at 70mph in jeans and a t, my pinky finger looked like a pencil after all the sliding on the pavement when i went down on my RZ, heck my brother lost the use of his arm in 1985 , he was wearing a helmet (was in California), really mind your own peas and cues and ride! mabey we should get good old uncle dalton to ban riding without gear...would that make you happy!

the very first post of mine has an edit on that. I set up the poll and couldn't make changes to it. Don't blame ya though, I don't always read posts from from the beginning. Either way, I was looking for members influenced by dialogue on the forum, past and present, not just this thread. This thread was meant to be only for the poll.

not sure if this was directed at me or someone else. But, NO, it wouldn' make me happy. To each one their own. The only reason I say this is due to the fact that I believe that everyone should have the freedom of making their own choices, although I firmly believe that everyone should wear gear that's most affordable and comfortable. And if that means squiding for some folks then so be it.

Oh, yeah, same on the helmet law. It should be optional, even though I personally feel strongly otherwise. The rider won't be injuring /killing anyone other than themselves so what's the big deal. I lost a firend - No helmet or gear, and ****** drunk while riding. Tragic as it was, it should never have happened; He might have survived with a helmet, but was a complete *** for driving drunk. I'm personally ok with 2 of the 3 ( no gear or helmet, but definitely not the booze). Drinking is a complete no no as it throws other people into the equation.
