Rattle can paint for race glass?

Hmmm. Reviews on the product say that a clear coat should be used to protect the paint. Maybe I just may do that. $25.00 and maybe it'll clearcoat the Tremclad. I will test out on a piece of old bodywork next week and let ya know. So far it seems the two paints react well together even though one is acrylic and one lacquer. Could be a bonus for me if that works. Clear everything for durability.

Not positive if that would do the job. Since it only needs 40psi, as long as you give the compressor time to build up when it kicks on, may do the job. Possibly another member has some insight on this.
Yeah, the tremclad and lacquer didn't react in any negative way. I was expecting something to possibly orange peel, but nothing.
You sprayed over Tremclad with the Lacquer paint with no ill effects?
Also, question about the compressor... I have a cheap 2 gallon one that pressurizes up to 110psi, is it possible to use it with the spray gun? Or would I need something that I can set a constant pressure of 40psi

EDIT: Sorry I misread the size you mentioned. That wouldnt have the CFI required. You will need a larger compressor.

Yeah thanks I looked up some compressors at CT, they have a 5g comp. that delivers 5.1 scfm @ 40 PSI that would work... $249.00. The top feed gravity spray gun is $69.00... I will probably buy this stuff for next years paint jobs... thanks for the info.

Tremclad is still the cheapest route for me at this time because I don't have the above tools needed... $55 got me the Tremclad paint, sandpaper and rollers. I can't do the tank with Tremclad but I have nice paint laid down on that already so I'm getting away cheap this year (:

I finally got around to painting the tank. Didn't want to risk the Tremclad on the tank near the gas so I tried the CT Ready To Spray Lacquer. Not bad at all. Pre mixed so no thinning or hardener needed. Pour and spray. My old gun didn't want to work after 15 plus years so I grabbed another top feed from CT. Did the trick. Sprays really well and smooth. The paint laid down well. To test out the Tremclad, I resprayed the Tremclad covered undertail. No peeling at all. The paint laid down on that easily. I was just curious if the two worked at all together. So all that is left are decals on order (Ebay) and Sircastic is producing numbers for me. Oh yeah...Still need to cut out and fiberglass a 'pocket onthe bottom of the bellypan for the exhaust, where it touches. That'll take nothing though.

If it'll take 'nothing' then make one for me. Thats why I was running bottomless at JGP!!

I have the fibreglass and resin. All that needs to be done is cut out the area where the header hits (oversize) and drape the glass from the inside so it makes a slight 'belly'. Lay down a layer of reinforcing strips of glass in a cross grid for a bit of rigidity and paint the bottom area, in that vicinity. Easy peasy. I will gladly do that for ya Fiery. I would need the exact area that is touching to be marked. Prolly need to test fit once the first layer is on, though. I don't want a big belly. Just enough to clear it and not burn.

I have a 13 gallon electric compressor and a new CT top feeding low pressure spray gun. That's it. Poured the paint straight from the can into the gun through a strainer cloth and set the compressor at 40PSI. Even strokes and voila. I also used rattle can primer after a 600 grit sanding to remove the gloss of the old paint. A smaller compressor would do as the pressure is low enough. Pics were from an Android phone so not the best. I may or may not clearcoat. Considering it's only a trackbike.....naw. The paint is only $25.00 a quart. Enough to do an entire bike in one colour. Next time. But strong on odour. Respirator required!!!!

not sure how dangerous it is but your not spraying it so exposure is minimized. Spayed my own bike with automotve base clear and it made me crazy enough to ride hotshoe in track days at 50 years old. GOOD STUFF

Anyone has a link to a hardener I can just add to the enamel and not having to spray it? Googled Mason and nothing relevant came up ....

ahh man you should have posted on osr that you needed a paint job ..... I just did mine and my girlfriends......and came out awesome. I have losts of the expensive stuff left over (reducer and hardener)....you would have just had to buy a couple pints of paint.
The pink will look good on you :)

I picked up a quart of the Nason 468-00 clearcoat. This weekend I'll clear the tank. They (CMAX) also sells the Duplicolour paint I used. They assure the two will work together. I painted some tremclad on a spare piece of old plastic. I will shoot that with clear as an experiment to see what will happen. If it doesn't bubble up or distort the paint, I may spray all body parts for the added protection and strength of the finish. The activaor only comes in large bottles but there is a universal hardener available thats a fraction of the cost.

Nason 2K definitely does NOT work with tremclad. ;) Tank came out beautifully except for minor dust in the clear. That stuff sprays easily too and levels to a nice deep fuel proof shine. New bodywork (whenever) will get the same spray treatment. Tremclad will do for now.

Could you post up some pics after the clear. Is the Nason clear completely gas proof?

yes, any 2k clear will hold up to fuel spillage. this is the same stuff used on new cars and bikes. also good for uv rays so color will not fad.

However nason is the cheap line of clear, and will yellow in prolonged sun exposure. i usually use nason for door jams under hood and under trunk lids (no uv exposure)

i had some left over and recleared my hood of my f150 and after the summer the yellowing was quite evident compared to the rest of the truck.

nason made by DUPONT around 100 buck a gallon with hardner

DUPONT chroma clear 350 gallon with hardner
