Get a cat, or even better, a husky. It's pretty entertaining to watch them in the winter figure out where the rodents have tunnelled through the snow, and then pounce on them while they're still underground.

I think I know where their food is coming from. There's a family 4 doors down that throws all their garbage into a pile in the back yard to create mulch for their garden. I'm going to go talk to them today but I don't think I'll get much cooperation. 2 years ago I called bylaw enforcement on them, they were raising fish in a swimming pool and drying them on their deck, smell would gag you.

I can put up with a lot of wacky hijinx from the neighbours, I don't even care about rats, but if they're doing something that makes the whole block smell foul, that is not cool. Parents have a neighbour that raises chickens in the city limits ... there's an uneasy truce because some have wandered into their yard, which has a husky in it, lol.
