Racing Underground Invitations

I have read quite a few posts regarding requests for invitations to RU...

Most of us that have had them have long since given them out or at least that seems to be the general consensus.

This is the breakdown for invitations if you make a donation to RU.

Note that this is in EUR (Euros) currency.

Donation of € 5
1 invite / 2 GB Donation of € 10
2 invites / 5 GB Donation of € 20
3 invites / 15 GB Donation of € 35
4 invites / 45 GB Donation of € 50
6 invites / 75 GB Donation of € 100
15 invites / 200 GB
What I propose is we get a list of people who want on the site together and figure out what donation lvl to go for.

Currently converted to CAD... if we had 15 people who wanted invites it would be ~ $10.00

As of today XE says the rate is 9.35636 CAD for 6.66 Euro (based on a €100 donation)

Will give it a few days to see how many people are interested so post up.....

Admins, feel free to delete this if you have any grief with what I am proposing.

I don't quite get it. You make a donation to the site, and they give you an invite? Or someone who is already on the site has to make a donation (on behalf of the interested people), and those who payed will receive invites in return?

I've been trying to get into that site for a while so I would be somewhat interested.

existing member has to make the donation. i assume OP is a current member.

I hear so much talk about this site, why is it so popular? Isn't it just videos or people racing?

it's the most comprehensive collection of races and other racing programming of all sorts of series. When I had my account (lost it due to inactivity...bummer), I always downloaded motogp races, as well as old F1 races. be warned... it's a bandwidth whore, so make sure you have the appropriate internet service.

i already have an account, so no thanks.

however. RU doesnt look kindly on this sort of thing.

I can give good advice here. I've known and worked with the owner going on 10 years now. I'm not up for personally vouching for people IDK, but I'm pretty sure he/they won't like this idea. If you do make thinks work between you, remember that ratio is very important, as is the ratio of everyone you invite, it's monitored and dealt with fairly strictly.

Care to point me to anything it RU's rules that states that? I read them before I posted this and found nothing so please enlighten me.

1. It a pretty pessimistic outlook you have assuming that everyone will just hit and run if they join the site. Also RU deals with those people on a 1 on 1 basis and deletes their accounts if that is the case. It's possible the people that may join end up seeding more than their share but, your outlook on life excludes that possibility. Shame.

2. RU is looking for donations (another way of saying get paid) and if I do donate to the site for invites I can do whatever I goddamn well like with them. It would be quite another thing if I were trying to make a buck off them. Maybe it isn't clear to you but it's not my intention at all.

3. RU isn't taking the money they get and giving it to the people that put the time and effort into making their site possible. That's the Uploaders that capture and encode all the events. Unless they are mailing out checks and in that case I'm wrong and apologize.

4. I am well aware of the importance of ratio and I leave all my downloads up to pass along however it's almost impossible to keep a positive ratio given the sheer number of seeders. This is especially true when you download something old or obscure but I don't know what the solution is for that. Maybe you do?

I'm sorry to anyone who replied or PMed me with interest in this. Internet negativity wins.

Disregard this post, it won't happen.

+1 looking for invite (I have accounts on other trackers in good standing)

In regards to thread I don't see how this is any worse then the site having "open" registrations which it does periodically (last one was in February for a few hours). Usually Private trackers do frown on selling invites though... so it's could be considered a grey area.

I'm on a couple private trackers and they are very strict about the people you invite. If your found to invite leechers or hackers it's not uncommon to get banned yourself.

In its nature, is it closer to, say, iTunes store, or to rapidshare?

I have been hearing about it for a long time (years). Watching stuff on TV doesn't generally appeal to me, so I can't quite understand this widespread fascination with RU. If it's just the races ripped from TV or something, can't people just find it elsewhere? What makes RU so special?

ru is easy. the files are well organized. consistent uploaders. fastest trackers ive ever used.

Newsgroups is where it's at. No ratio's, no waiting, just straight super fast downloading!

+1

Never had a virus either and I watch it on my terms, when I have time and how many times I want to. Only positives ...

1 invite / 2 GB Donation of € 10
2 invites / 5 GB Donation of € 20
3 invites / 15 GB Donation of € 35
4 invites / 45 GB Donation of € 50
6 invites / 75 GB Donation of € 100
15 invites / 200 GB

You left out an important rule ...

"Since january 1st 2011, we've started with our new donation format. No longer are there lifetime VIP status', but donation-determined rewards. Rewards are given depending on your GB difference; If you have a positive GB difference, you will be rewarded with invites. If you have a negative GB difference, you will be rewarded with GB's added to your upload amount. Below is a list of all donation options."

So the person donating so would have to have a positive GB difference. There's that many people who do (LOL), so you'd have to first get yourself on plus side of things and then donate again to get invitations ....

Even worse then.

I would have to spend € 50 just to get out of the hole and that's with seeding everything I have downloaded since 2008 :(

Meh, just an idea.

I'm long since past it.

Ok, my answer assumes you do not know how torrents work. If you do, then I apologize for the redundancy.

Being a torrent site, RU does not really behave like either iTunes or Rapidshare. The site is a collection of users, who upload and download files to eachother. The site itself is basically a conduit between users.

At least one user would acquire a race (Recent content is usually a digital source rip. Older content, such as F1 races from the < 90s are either DVD captures, or even races captured on VHS and converted to digital files), then basically tell RU (a torrent) that it has this content available for others to download. That file is then shared with others, and because of this, that files becomes more readily available, and the process repeats itself.

What makes RU so popular is:

1. newer content is usually available in many flavours. You want just the motogp race? no problem. You want the race with pre and post commentary? no problem. You want just the Moto2 race? No problem. You want the race in Italian? No problem.... you get the idea. On free and non-monitored sites, you're usually only able to get certain versions, and it's basically take it or leave it. The motivation to post races is also not as high, because it's a thankless task. On RU, people cannot wait long enough to make races available, because they usually love racing; and having content first ups your credibility and your upload/download ratio (see #2) They also try hard to get the best quality possible.

2. because the site requires you to upload as much as you download, the likelihood of you getting a file, and bolting is much lower. Moreover, you keep content more available for others to acquire. If you show a habitual pattern of downloading and not uploading, RU will kick you out.

3. Because of said passion (and desire to keep their ratio intact), people are more likely to post and keep uploading old races than they would on a free site. There's no incentive to do this on old sites.

4. If someone has a request to post a race, people usually oblige.

The amount of content in there is intoxicating. But as I said, because of the ratio requirement, your bandwidth is going to get seriously used if you are a frequent user of the site.
