Glad you're looking into the hobby. Which brand are you looking into? word of caution: Stay away from no name chinese made ones. I owned one as my first entry level gas buggy made by smartech and it was CRAP. the engine couldn't hold its tune so i had to readjust it every other tank. The parts were made from crap, the gears stripped after 10 tanks. I've owned HPI products in the past (nitro rs4 and the Savage LE) and i didn't have to replace a thing on it for the 4 years I've owned it.

*** forgot to add, I got out of the nitro scene a while back and I'm running gas ones now. If you need a nitro fuel let me know, I have a little over 3/4 of a gallon left sitting around (25% blend) that you can have for free if you come pick it up, I'm located at kennedy and steeles. Worth the drive if you live within 25kms since a gallon will usually run you about 25 bucks

Let me know what you decide to get when you do :)

Thanks for the offer ..

Im considering buying a nitro truck from the website i listed above. For $300 out the door .. its all i need.
I dont need the latest and greatest out there .. there is also www.torontonitro.com where they have a half decent nitro truck as well.

I like the fact the first one is out of Mississauga, and parts are readily available ..

Hey this is cool. So for 300 beans i can get into the sport? Whats needed in addition to just the r/c? Parts expensive when i crash and burn?

i guess they're good but the price for parts will add up. They might be more reliable now since i bought those chinese made ones back in 2003. It's totally up to you.

In addition to the car and the radio itself you'll need a glow plug ignitor to start the engine and batteries for the radio and receiver. get yourself a glow plug wrench while you're at it. Makes maintenance easier

Great hobby ... although the one big problem is tracks, especially in GTA. Whether off-road or on-road. I personally would not have much fun just fooling around, because it gets boring after a while. The challenge comes from racing others on the track.

I got out of the hobby about 5 years ago, used to have NitroTC3 and then 1/8 Serpent lola type body with a nice screaming Serpent engine. It was awesome, fast car. Back then there was only one track .. .FastCats in Oakville and that put kind of a stop to my hobby. Oakville is too far, which meant only good for weekends and weekends meant packed track ....

Helis are I guess maybe easier, maybe not I don't know (I don't think you can fly them just about anywhere you want, except for the little electrical ones which are even good for your backyard on a windless day). Anyways, before you sink money into it (and it will become a little money pit, like motorcycles lol) think where do you want to run your models, because the driveway runs will wear off very quickly.

I agree with the limited space to run these things .. esp since the ones im looking at will do 80km/h.

more than likely it will be used alot for the remainder of summer .. and than collect dust, i have a feeling thats what happens to alot of people in this hobby.

Mine collects dust in the summer and I use it during winter when I can't ride anymore. go to the school yard during off hours when there are no children around and let er rip. the school yard has many small bumps that serves as a great natural ramp. Works out for me when I just want to mess around. If i wanna do some track sessions I bring it to downsview park. I don't know if they still have the track there, been a while since i last went.

I run them in public school yards and parks. I've never had a problem.

There's a group that race around the rona parking lot in whitby. Don't know if they're doing it this year, but I've seen them there twice last year while shopping at rona. I always sat and watched them for a while. I used to be into cars when i was younger. Had a few electric ones that are still gathering dust in dad's basement somewhere. I'd love to pick up a heli and learn to fly it, or maybe build a small plane and get back into it. I just don't seem to have the time anymore though.

Yeah theres actually an indoor track in Oshawa and an offroad track out in Courtice somewhere.
Ive seen the pictures of the outdoor track, and it looks like a lot of time/money has been put into it.

The Outdoor offroad track is just off Wavery rd. near the 5th Wheel. The entrance is next to that old Bedwell Van Lines truck sitting in the field. Good track, good bunch of guys. The club website is www.dorc.ca You can get more info from Xtreme RC in Whitby as well.

Thanks. But the yearly membership is a little pricey though.
I think i finally found a half decent truck .. HPI savage 4.6.

That is pretty standard for RC clubs now. When I raced WAY back in the day it was hardly anything. But that was way back in the day when people didn't sue the landowners every time they got a sliver or twisted ankle. People are suck cupcakes now. lol

I was just about to ask if anyone is into rc hobby when i came across this thread. I started with little coaxial helicopters for 20$, now practicing first single rotor chopper. Your t-rex looks impressive. Do u do any 3d stunts?

I have a blade 120sr but I never fly it. It just sits on a shelf lol. Maybe when the weather is nicer ill take it out more.

My hobby of rc trucks was short lived, bought a HP Savage 4.6. Ran it for a month, and it seems everytime i took it out it was costing around $30 to run it. I was always breaking stuff on it ...
Not to mention it was basically as loud as a cracked out weed eater .. lol ..
