Gotta schedule those? No walk-ins?

I have no problem with the OP or his plan....but I will make just one suggestion : (and I have no doubt she is as good as you say she is, however) please spend more than $1000 on a ring. She does want it. I'm not saying to drop 10g's, but I think that around $3k should suffice. And Cut , Colour and Clarity over Carat.

+1 Was thinking $1k was light but didn't want to be the first to say given the numbers the OP was bouncing around. $3k would be a minimum if she's gonna show it to anyone.

Are they? Where? Can I read about them?

How come I don't know about yours? Do you have someone that admire you?

Immigrant-> Bootstraps-> Condo-> Fancy sub urban digs-> Jeep-> Race bikes-> Dirt bike-> Utility trailer-> Hardcore commuter-> No circus-> No monkeys. That would be impressive for a Canadian.

Didn't know you cared that much to keep a zx600 diary, me in the other hand...

I like you too muffin

**** that. I'm lucky. My wife and I sat down one day and saw a pic of a Canadian diamond mine which had put a massive ugly hole in the otherwise pristine northern environment and we reevaluated the actual worth of a sparkly piece of carbon. Result, no more artificially overpriced cartel controlled diamonds (which are all diamonds). By the way, it was a DeBeers ad that suggested the price of an engagement ring, one of the most successful ads of all time. Guess who controls the price of nearly all the worlds diamonds?

Having $200 a month left to spend is honestly too little for this sport

Maybe consider Motopark for a weekend once a month.

Get a $2000 off road bike,

leave it up there. Spend the rest on day rides. No insurance needed. You likely have okay gear.

much fun

A waste of money. An ancient tradition, no civilized people should be practicing any longer.

Shiny or pretty as they may be, they are just rocks.

Spend it on something useful, or fun.

Also research the diamond industry and see how scummy it is.

My wife wears a $1500 wedding ring. She'd rather I spend money on important things like nice bike parts, leathers/helmets, and tires.

I totally get what you guys are saying.

...but she can show off our investment egg when it breaks the million mark in 10~ years (we both got nothing from our parents, so it's literally from scratch) =D

Following this thread closely as I'm also considering leaving the sport. Wife got pregnant and I know she's worried about me riding with a baby on the way (or once it arrives!) but she hasn't said it yet or brought up the topic. Hell yesterday she even told me to go for a ride as it's been too long!

On our end it's mainly for safety reasons instead of financial. There's no debts/payments on any toys so not a concern.

Anyway as for OP. Good on you for thinking like an adult and thinking forward and having a great SO. They're hard to find so keep her.

As for the $1k ring. Pay what you feel is right, I wanted something small for my wife so ended up with one for less than 4k and she couldn't be happier and that's what matters in the end. If she's happy with a 1k ring, then the only reason to go higher is if YOU want to and can afford to. I know guys spending 10k+ on rings...craziness IMO.

Add us to the no-diamond wedding ring club. Gold bands, and not even particularly expensive ones, either. A mutual decision. Our priority was to buy a house and get out of living in apartments, and the money was far better spent on that instead. Regret = none..and hey, look...our house is paid off in a few more years.

Thanks to the www people are finally waking up to the fact that almost everything traditional is BS. We're fast approaching an era of enlightenment that previously seemed impossible considering 99% of the worlds population is stupid and/or living in poverty which is like being stupid.

Holy cow! I didn't expect that backlash! Lol !
Wouldn't stop riding because of a kid on the way Polskie...but if you are like me, it seriously cuts down on the available riding time. But for the $28/ month in insurance, the bike stays. And the wife just upped the insurance payout, so she's good either way ?
@jc100 tbh, I've only really found out about all the diamond bs in the last 10 years or so, and been married for close to 20. We don't buy any other diamonds, just that one. And DeBeers did a great job on marketing. I would never advocate spending 3 months salary +. I just suggested closer to 1 month, but I understand and respect your and your wife's view.
@PrivatePilot absolutely there are better things to spend $ on. Luckily my wife and I are both quite frugal, and we are very close to your situation, I would think.
Anyway, I was just offering another view. I had friends that bought each other golf ckubs for engagement presents, no rings. I got a nice watch. All I was saying is that sometimes when women say something like "oh that would be okay" they really mean " that other one will be nicer" and if they are the materialistic type, they will make you feel like ish. And if they are not, they will just be quiet, but always kinda wish they had it. Again, all just my opinion.
Heck, I didn't want to say it at the beginning, but I try to tell people NOT to get married. It's the one effing thing that I GUARANTEE that I won't ever do again!

@wowsers Joe. I thought you were one big happy Italian family. Was my envy misplaced?
