Looking to maybe grab a bike today. Need quick answers please.

What are my options in getting it home aside from getting a tow if i do not have my own insurance.

Could i ride it under the current owners insurance?

are there temporary plates available that i could get for cheap?

i might be able to get a truck, but i dont like the idea of tying it down on just a kick stand, doesnt seem stable.

If you have access to a truck and some straps, that's easiest.
You can entice the owner to riding it to your place.

If you are unsure, just get infernobuster or kneedragger88 to move it for you. Those guys are pros are their rates are good.

You can also rent a van, get a ramp and move it yourself.

Riding it in this weather? You need your own insurance, and you should be able to get temp plates from MTO. Or current owner can ride it to your place with his own plates and under his own insurance.

would temp plates from MTO allow me to ride it back from his house legally? also they cost anything and do i need to provide the vin or uvip or anything?

Yes you can get a 10 day permit...... once bike is trasfered into your name only..

Get some ratchet straps. Most pick up trucks have hooks down low near the front of the bed. With the gixxer, I've wrapped the straps around the clip ons. With the 250, I can wrap the straps around forks at the lower triple

+1 to infernobuster and kneedragger. Or Caa. Always good to join.

You can ride it with the current owners plate and insurance if he is good with that.

Not if the ownership is signed.

OP: Give the guy a deposit and work the delivery into the deal. Finish the deal at your house and give him a ride home in your cage. I've sold a truck like that before to a kid who couldn't secure insurance right away.

This is basically what happened. Worked out better than expected. 08 grafitti cbr

Good for you dude. Never hurts to ask. Many people will gladly drop off the bike if they still have plates and insurance. Especially with a deposit or some extra cash and if you offer to drive them back. I've done it myself several times. It's also a good way to find out that the vehicle you just purchased is actually road worthy.
