Questions about Android TV box ..

I have the WD TV Live (third gen), I would have gotten the apple tv (have a mac, iPhone and iPad) but the apple tv wouldn't do what I wanted out of the box without having to have a computer running (stream movies from my network hard drive). I haven't really bothered with the streaming much as most shows I want are available for download but I have played with it a little and I like it, just gotta find the time to watch it. The part that I love about the WDTV? you don't have to **** with it to watch tv. it works you don't have to log into it and upload files, patch this patch that. updates you download directly from WD. it supports both wifi and hardwired networking (i have mine hard wired because wifi is shared), i could plug in an usb hard drive to it if i wanted instead of streaming but I already had the network hard drive.

with this android tv box what is required for maintenance? It is probably far more flexible than the wdtv live but how much work is involved in doing that?

They work great if you have realistic expectations of what the product and XBMC can and can't do.

No, they really don't, i've tried them all. They all have limitatons and once you reach that limitation you find yourself saying I shouldn't have spent my money on this crap.

The true and only solution is a computer. After trying all of these things i just ended up buying an inexpensive laptop for full time media, haven't looked back since, no limitations, no more dissapointments.

I use an Apple TV 2 running XBMC, fed content by an Archlinux server. Works perfectly fine. I've setup a a few more simpler Apple TV setups running XBMC and a couple plugins, everyone is happy.

Once again, comes down to realistic expectations.

Then go out and spend your money on any one of these, they're all crap. None of them work well.

What's wrong with rasberryPi. Splurged 35 bucks and does everything just well. Might have to reboot once in a quarter. What are you trying to do that got you panties in a bunch about media streamers?

I have one, and it works great

I paid $150 for it, and it came pre programmed with a bunch of apps. I pretty much only use Icefilms and 1channel. Any movie or show you can think of (including movies that haven't seen dvd yet) are available.

Very simple to use.

Live TV sports is terrible. I think the app is called Sports a holic.

Up to date shows within a few hours of them being aired.

I'm going to buy another one for the bedroom.

This blows my FTA receiver out of the water for a 1/3 of the cost.

Also HD is available through Icefilm
