Question for those lucky enough to have more than 1 bike

They do but it gets complicated with how they calculate your premiums.

Even with the car suspended it costs around $20 per month. Not much but it adds up over years. They also don't like you to suspend coverage for the whole year. Honestly, if I didn't have to get an appraisal done to put insurance on it, I'djust leave it uninsured while stored. No one's going to steal it and it's not worth much anyway.

I asked my agant before i left for my trip and thats what i was told. I'll try asking another statefarm agent.

I wish it did work the other way though -- I'd love to keep my CBR250RA for commuting and get a CBR600RRA as the weekend twisties toy if it only meant paying for the 600.

Lucky for you, the 600 you're considering is one of the best for commuting.

Years ago I had 3 bikes insured and plated. CBX250 for downtown commuting, a GSXR750 for weekend sport riding and a V45 Sabre for touring or leisure rides. Finally got rid of all of them when the insurance started to get too much. The 250 got black listed, so it was the first to go.

I have one for the streets and one for the track. I find that having dedicated track/race bike is well worth it and so, not a waste of money. Once I get more time to do serious touring, I'll most likely be looking at expanding the stable rather that getting rid of my beloved.

No you cant ride both at the sametime BUT it is possible for both to be ridden at the sametime.

That's a ridiculous argument though, if someone else was riding your other bike and crashed it your claim would be denied. It's just a scam by the insurance companies. If you have two bikes, your policy should be fire/theft on both and liability for the most expensive one.

Why would your claim be denied by the insurance company if another rider takes it for a spin? They only get denied IF they found you they were a regular driver/rider on the vehicle. Which is a misrepresentation... because they should be listed as a secondary rider which they aren't.

You should be able to specify that you're the only rider in exchange for the reduced insurance. Though I guess cars don't work that way either...

What if you have 2 bikes switch a policy back and forth?

What if you have 2 bikes switch a policy back and forth?

That would only work if you had the same bikes... Unles you're willing to pay the higher rate all the time. I suppose that can work. Or what if you take the wrong bike out and have an accident? Regardless it is way too much work.

Personally, don't think i could justify $1500-$2k just to insure each bike.

If it were 400-500 a year, that's another story.

I literally love my bikes and I don't mind to pay what it takes to play. The hobby/passion keeps me sane in today's hectic world and makes bad days go by quick.

+1. The money I spend on my biking habit, would be spent on therapy.

Friends that have sold bikes because of marriage/fear/children/etc are all actually IN therapy. coincidence? ...

2 Bikes.
MX (race) bike. Get ridden every weekend... I spend easily over 10G a year in parts, fuel, gear, track fees, gas for the truck etc etc... Don't regret it and by the time March comes around every year I'm dying of anticipation.
FZ6... Last year I put less than 5,000km on it because of how much free time is spent with the MX bike... Still, I wouldn't get rid of it. It's paid for, is nice enough, quick enough and I've made it my own. And in circumstances such as this year when I'm too hurt to ride the MX bike, it's awesome to have the street bike to rip around on and use on my now free weekends... The amount of money in gas I save compared to driving the truck does more than cover the cost of insurance as well.

5 bikes plated and insured along with a RV, Pickup and a Hatchback. Its only money, enjoy yourself!

Being part of the older crowd I can't count how many times people say "I wish I had kept that bike". Myself included. Since I believe in second chances this time around I sell nothing. Only add to the stable. If the mood diminishes for a certain bike, park it and ride something else. Soon enough the passion for the first bike comes back like a house on fire and you don't have to live with the regret of selling it. Never mind the losses taken for modifications and farkles. Spreading the mileage around half a dozen bikes is good too. I only insure 2 bikes at a time tho. Also consider the short Canadian riding season. Back in the bad old days a major malfunction could wipe out a riding season waiting for parts.

Do you look at your collection and wonder if you are wasting money? - NO, they fill the holes in my life, I need more to complete me :)

they have to be insured and maintained and what if you find you only ride one of them a handful of times, but can't bring yourself to part with it?
I find insuring the CBR1100 too expensive at 1300/yr so now its just stored until fall, will be insured to the road only from October to February.
250/yr on the 93 and older bikes and 250ninja is cheap.
Main bike is the CBF at 600/yr and that i can use for Long Distance trips.

Keeping the CBF, CB-1 400 and Ninja 250 is still cheaper than the CBR1100, but i can't still part with the CBR.

If I can turn back time and have the CBR stayed as a US bike i will keep it south and ride it there.

Is it nuts to have more than 2? - NO. But my wife says it is so i sold some of my bikes. I can only have 5 max

I had to stop at 6 the garage is full but only 5 are insured and licensed. The most expensive one is the one that rarely gets used.

Its actually opposite of getting bored, you want to ride each one everyday, specially if you have a real mixed collection, like a dirt bike, supermotos, 600's, 1000's all customized etc, once you get to 3 or more, it gets crazy, but yea you will stare at them all night everynight, its addictive. One big advantage if you have different kinds of bikes, you can master and keep you skill up on all kinds of bikes. Insurance gets cheaper with age, and more bikes, but still its comes with the sport of riding, gotta pay to play.

remember that blonde fabio guy from the 1990... he's got over 200 bikes, youtube him, now thats crazy, but he loves it, it all comes down to how much money you got...usually more money, more of the same toys, just more variety.lol
