question for the ski and snowbord ppl

british columbia?

THey are below the tree line. Heli-Skiing will take you above the tree line. Those mountains look smaller and have trees near the peak. They also have much flatter slopes then most Heli-Skiing. Heli-Skiing will give you about 4 runs a day. At least that is what we got in the Purcell Mountains and we flew out of Golden BC.

There are any number of heli places out west..Mike Wiegele is a famous one..but there are others. Heli is expensive..you can do cat skiing as well..less "exclusive" but often fresh tracks and cheaper. Ya sorta have to hope for the best with the snow. I was out west a few years back and it didn't snow for a week..nothing but blue-bird skies..so you might not get powder in that case with cat skiing. Heli, I'm sure they can find you some powder..

Most of the skiing/boarding along the west coast is similar. We get stuff like that in California as well - helicopter not required (the lifts will take you to the top, and then you just hike/ski to the more remote areas). Last year was a great year for fresh powder - it snowed a ton. I think by the end of the season, the total snow accumulation was close to 60 feet at a couple of the mountains.

I heard Squaw Valley got 3' in one day or something crazy! Awesome..

so stoked for this year of riding. Me and a few friends are headed out to Calgary and then a road trip to BC to go to Revelstoke for Cat skiing one day then regular lift passes the next then the following day spent at Kicking Horse. It's been years since I have been out west.

Lake placid is amazing.
Good enough for 2 winter Olympics good enough for you ;).

Lake Placid has good vertical and is pretty tough..but the snow is sketchy there. It's not nicknames "Iceface Mountain" for no reason! :-) And it's not a big place..only 350 acres or so. For me, it's a great long weekend destination when the snow is good.

LOL ya some friends and I made the pilgrimage there one season and found the mountain covered in ice. We went to Montreal and partied instead. :p

While on the subject, what the next best resort after Blue mountain within the same distance? I prefer glades and moguls. I am bored to death with Blue Mountain. Heck I learned to snowboard there, got bored, then I picked up skiboards, got fed up with them. Now, I am considering a monoski :) Also it's over packed with morons. My girlfriend got hit twice on Suicide Valley.

most ski resorts in North America are packed with teenage lowriding morons, wearing the stupidest colourd jackets and pants imaginable...SKIING IS NOT ABOUT FASHION! its about skiing....

I quite like the bright colours. I myself wear a bright green and blue jacket, with matching bindings.

Big White near Kelowna, B.C. Went there a few years ago. Awesome. 4m of snow. It was a "light" snow year. LoL.

makes the hills in ontario look like speed bumps.
