Question for the ladies with long hair

I have 2 co-workers (younger guys) that wear those things around for style. I teased them about it and they explained to me what they were for so I tried one out and it's pretty good under the helmet.

I'll wear it without my lid when stopped when out riding but you'd be hard pressed to catch me wearing that thing casually or anywhere without my bike nearby.

Yo, that's off the Shizzle Izzle Yo! WORD-Ty

Buns could squish in your lid and possibly cause damage to your head in an accident. I used to wear bandanas under my lid but found the knot at the back was causing too much pressure at the back of my head. I didn't like the idea of the possibility of going down and having that same knot concentrate the force of impact into the back of my skull.

Maybe this thing will work?

There's also those leather wraps that some people wear around their pony tails to keep it together.

Jesus Murphy, don't tuck your ponytail/bun INTO your helmet.

I don't wear my hair in a bun.

I wasn't talking about my hair in that post, I was referring to the knot in my bandana.

Saw this at the WROAR Ride, a few years back; some kind of suede wrap, that was tied around the hair.

When I had hair half way down my back, I used to put it in a ponytail and tuck it back down of my shirt. After my ride, no knotts..

Yikes, this looks like a weird sex-toy

I have long hair. It's destroyed from riding. Although I tie it back, same thing with the knots. I can't deal with braiding it, so I don't. I find it gets caught up in the collar of my jacket and impedes my ability to freely turn my head. I'm still contemplating giving up and cutting it short.

+10 ^

No knots, no fried hair, quick run through with fungers & no helmet head.

My hair is to my waist, so there's a few things I do to prevent knots... A regular ponytail works (the end tucked into your jacket) but has to be secured low, or it affects head movement I find. I like side braids, making sure to put extra elastics in at intervals (to avoid hair popping out) and getting them right close to the ends. Spacing elastics the length of my hair - as in the previously posted photo. Or, when it's cooler, I just tuck it all down the back into my jacket. Most of the time it all stays put, the odd time I have some little side tangles where layers made their way to...:brave:

:laughing8:

Edit: Since Shoe pointed it out....I don't mean real elastics, I'm talking about those ones that have no metal and they are wrapped so they don't pull your hair ('ouchless'). Does anyone even use real elastics anymore

Pics with cleavage or I call BS.

Elastics damage your hair.
I buy the ouchless ones without the metal clasp joining them etc.. and it still damages the hair.

I do what Nyx does with the ouchless but instead of that going the rest of the way I use the small elastics meant for smaller/tighter braids to space out the rest? I have midback length layered hair so that way it gets all of it, I then tuck the pony in my shirt/jacket...

to prevent damage to the hair (caused by pulling) I normally will just cut off the little rubber bands (theyre $1 for 500 at the dollar store).

I either braid my hair or use the suede wrap. I find with the braid my hear ends up a little tangeled as my hair is to thick to stay in a nice bread for the whole ride. With the suede wrap there are no tangles at all. I will find the card of the lady that made mine at Ride for Site. She custom makes them so you can chose leather or suede in any colour, length, style you want. Good thing about hers is it doesn't slide at all.

Oh and I find that the thicker ouchless elastics hold the hair in place a lot better than the thin ones.
