question about motoparkracing trails

Hi,

I'm new to Canada/GTA, landed in Brampton and just picked up a GasGas EC300 and I'm looking for places to go ride and get ready for the XC serries. I've been away from dirt bike riding for a few years and excited to start again :)

I read that moto park also has trails and I'm wondering how long they are and what the difficultie level is of the trails. The combination of some laps on the trails followed by some laps on the MX track might be a good practice session to get back to riding.

Any suggestions for other places to ride are welcome I'm planning to go riding again on the 13th of April and hope to have my green plate and insurance by then.

Thanks,

Jan

no need for a green plate or insurance at a track.

burnt river mx is the best track/trails around.

steel city riders is the cheapest way to ride. cheap membership and you can ride as much as you want for free. track and trails.

eagles nest is right down the street. hard pack mx track and no trails.

ganaraska has the best/most trails around. something for everyone there.

I'm not a fan of the Burnt River track itself. If you do ride it, make sure you have hard pack tires, and it it's wet I hope you're smooth on the bike! The trails however, are great and they do hold XC races there (or have in the past). I ride there about once a year when I pass through the area, and it is a fun track, just not really my style.

Eagles nest... Don't bother. It's un-kept. The surface is rock solid and with any rain it's just like ice. The jumps are filled with GARBAGE (I mean literal trash) with dirt on top for the surface. I've gone there and been landing in old tires and cinder blocks because the track is allowed to deteriorate. It's a waste of gas and $.

Ganny (Ganaraska) I haven't been there but there are a bunch of guys from here that do go and it sounds like a blast... I might end up there once this summer.

Gopher Dunes in Courtland. An internationally known track, deep sand and ROUGH when it hasn't been groomed and it's a busy day. I LOVE this track simply because of how rough it gets and the fact that sand needs you to stay WFO. There is also a trail system there, and they extended it a bit last year. Mostly wide stuff, but there is a bit of single track. It usually has a few muddy sections that are fun but a bit of a challenge at times. Right now the trails are closed as they are flooded... Mid-May they might have the trails ready, but the track right now is open!

MotoPark... Awesome facility. The track is great, and the trails are better than gopher. Lots of single track, some of it is 1st/2nd gear technical stuff and some of it you can open it up. Has some rocky and rooted sections. It's a good time!

Trails in Turkey Point/St.Williams were awesome. I grew up in the area and we could go in there, spend an entire day and always have something new to do. Unfortunately it's closed down which is a shame, it was an amazing place to learn some enduro skills.

Simcoe forest is good for trails and bush riding. Just need insurance, green plate and a trail pass. I think it's like $90 and you can ride all you want during the season, there's a few different areas and forests all around the Barrie and horseshoe valley area

Thanks for the replies, I think I will be giving motorpark and steel city riders a call a day before I want to go ride to find out about the conditions and if the trails or just track is open. Gopher dunes and burnt river will have to wait until later in the season ;)

One question about Ganny are the trails well marked or do you need someone with local knowledge to show you arround?

The trails aren't marked well enough in my opinion. Once you learn the main roads you can navigate through there but you can definatly get lost. If you take a compass you'll be able to find your way back to your vehicle but someone with knowledge is definatly a bonus. Ill be going out when the trails open there and can show you around if you'd like, there's a few people on here that ride there as well so you'll have no problem finding someone to ride with. Defiantly don't go alone, the forest is far too big and you may not see another rider all day if you stay in the good trails.

I just recently joined Steel City Riders, and am really looking forward to it this year. I prefer gopher dunes trails over its track and with motopark I prefer the track over the trails, that's probably more because of my skill level being not very good.

FYI: If you plan on joining steel city riders, they do require you to volunteer yourself for one day out of the summer to assist with a club race. So be prepared to sacrafice a saturday, sunday or mon, fri of a long weekend. That part was tough for me cause I work a lot of weekends, luckily I joined early and was able to pick a date I had off.

As dricked said don't go alone and bring a GPS/compass.

Provided I can get proper insurance on the dirt bike this year (the whole competition thing really screws it up for me) I might find the time to hit the ganny... If so I'll need a guide!

State farm. They actually know what offroad insurance is and it is cheap. Let me know when you are coming and I'll show you a few good trails. I'm out there most weekends anyway.

If you can get Wudzrydr to come with you you'll have a good time. He pretty much lives there and has a GPS full of trails from Ganny. At a bare minimum he pretends to know where he is going.

If it wasn't for my GPS I'd probably still get lost. :confused1: I find new stuff all the time out there.

If you can follow a map you wont get lost, there are markers on trees at all intersections plus main roads are also sighned.

I have mine XR650 blue plated, anyones else has blue plates ? Please I would like to join you guys for the ganny ride, how far is it from GTA? do you guys ride to there or do we have to trailer the bikes?

I trailer my bike and depending on where your coming from in the GTA it's probably 1hr from the DVP/401. I'm going to try for a ride next weekned.

I also prefer to trailer although I've done both. It's 1 hour from the GTA if you take the highways, or about 1.5 hours taking the back roads. Just remember there's still LOTS of hard packed snow and ice in the trails, and the Ganny is still closed until May 1st.
