Our tractor shed and hay storage burned down and my bike was between two large tractors. Its been melted and covered with debris. Is my insurance going to want whats left of it? And are they going to want it right away as the tractors are not moving anytime soon?

They will want it as asap but you can make arrangements i believe

Does it really matter? It's not your responsibility to deliver it to them. Have them come and pick it up with a truck with a winch to pull it out from between the tractors.

Thanks! It's stuck between 20000 and 12000 poumds of steel and the building etc.. The farm insurance is still trying to figure out the logistics.

Don't worry about it not your responsibility to "deliver it" they will send a salvage yard to recover it. If the driver can't get it out he will inform insurance who will then contact you to make arrangements or if they are the same insurers for the building/tractors, then they will handle all the details if not give them that insurers name and they will work it out between them.

IF they try to play hard ball and say it is your responsibility to make it available ask them if I ran it down a 300' embankment wold you expect me to get it back to roadside?...lol

Why don't you call your agent & find out?

The bike and farm are different companies.. I was just trying to figure out things as my agent is on holidays(Mantha brokers/Intact insurance). The tractors insurance don't know how to get them out yet as the fire department put all remnants in front of the two tractors its between. I'll take add some pics, just looking to get advice.

The bike was in the far left building. Its 80 feet long and 30 wide for perspective. Any advice is needed as I don't want any squabbles with insurance, my bike is a grain of salt compared to the rest. Will drag it out myself if it saves the hassle/blacklisting.

I would talk to your agent first, if you "drag" it out, they may try to lowball you saying you caused "extra" damage..LOL The bike is no doubt a write off, but they will say some parts were damaged that reduced the price they will get for salvage..lol

Insurance got back to me, what a hassle... The shed, 3 tractors, manure spreader, silage blower, snowblower, pto generator, rice tires and rims, tools, 500 bales of hay, 2 horses, fuel tanks etc insurance got in touch in a day. The motorcycle are acting crazy for minor part of it. A shop has to come take, appraise it. The rims melted, and the shop is asking if can they can get it easily.. They can`t wiihout running over nails etc?

I had an issue once that I didn't like.. I was advised to get an independent appraiser involved... the $2000 claim they were trying to offer $500 for became a $7000 cheque in my pocket,, and I kept the salvage..
I can tell you another story where the agent played hardball... and the customer found out how to play check mate... by asking an independent ... and another story where the guy who advised me to get an independant agent was out of the country , had the collision.. basically didn't leave the area until he had a settlement from the guys insurance,,, and got home to find a "i,m sorry" letter in his mail box that said his own insurance knew about the accident but because he didn't have out of province insurance, he wasn't covered...
appraisers can do this for you too. but it is more difficult for them to appraise your bike now...
Good luck!
Sorry about your loss.

Thanks for the tips, almost lost the remains of the motorcycle to a 5 tonne wrecker trying to remove the 12(thought is was 10 with hardware, weighs 12 stripped) tonne tractor. The shop comes tomorrow for the motorcycle, most likely will have more questions.

Shop was a day late and now refuses to come up my lane because of ice from the water used to put out the fire. Wants me to get Intact to salt the 250 foot lane. Is this normal? We already recieved the cheque for all farm related equipment and building. We just bought a 100 hp loader tractor and offered to use it to scrape the lane and was refused?

Crazy. 9 degrees forecast for Saturday where I am, the ice will melt.

If they really insist that you salt the road, have them agree that it will be expensed to them. 250 feet of salting via a special 1-off visit from a contractor will be more than $10.

Insurance is now saying that was all a mistake because of the ice storm in Toronto backlogging the system. They are going to send an adjuster to take pics etc as they realize there is no repairing a melted motorcycle. Jevco/Intact is making me wonder, what if this was my truck or house..

What is a reasonable estimate for an 09 ex250r with 28 000km? Its been serviced at every interval. Just wondering as the same motorcycle with less km's or newer(2012) have been popping up on kijiji from the adjusters area for $2000.

From what I've seen, more than $2500 in the GTA. I've heard you can forward ads that you find to them.

Considering a friend of mine got $4,000 for a 30,000km 2009 GS500, I don't think it's unreasonable for you to get around $3,000.

I am suprized they are still trying to mess with this claim.. I'd be asking for a supervisor.. and complaining about the mistakes, and poor service etc... point out the stories you were told already,,, yadda yadda ,,, get to work and cut a cheque!!

someone independent may be able to help.. but they do charge for the service,, so you would have to subtract that from your claim ... but I bet you can do the same with some research of local bikes for sale ads...
you would probably need to settle for $3300 to come out with $3000 after paying for appraisal... something like that,,

Insurance dispute appraisals:

Individuals may not agree with the value arrived at by their insurance company in the event that their vehicle or piece of equipment may have been deemed a total loss by their insurance company. A fair and impartial professional insurance quality total loss report will be prepared after viewing the remnants of the said vehicle. In the event of a not recovered theft or total burn out, all information and photos provided by the insured will be scrutinized and used in the preparation of a value report. An appraisal of damages can also be arranged if required.

Thank you ^. I had a call from Intact about an offer but was not around or able to call them back on time. The motorcycle was insured for $5 500, $300 deductible. What can I expect?
