Question about alcohol

I've often wondered how RVs handle the booze issue because while you tend to finish a beer soon after unsealing the bottle / can, a bottle of whisky usually gets drained over a period of days or weeks and it sits accessable to the vehicle occupants. I know it can be considered a secondary residence when parked in an appropriate location but on the road????

What if a biker is carrying a bottle of single malt for a nightcap on a trip?
Is he expected to finish the bottle before resuming the journey and wouldn't that encourage drunken driving, the whole issue we are trying to avoid?

This is why the laws here are silly. Also the reasons these laws are there are because the residents here are silly.

In NZ, passengers are allowed to drink in the car. No problems. We always took "traveller's " with us in cabs or friends cars. Been stopped at police check points - never a problem. As long as the driver is not drunk.

Here, people are stupid - each long weekend how many people are caught intoxicated? Hundreds... And everyone knows the cops are our there.

In the case of an RV, I would expect as long as it's out of reach of the driver you are good to go.

Common sense applies. If it isn't readily accessible while driving, then it isn't an issue. If someone in an RV gets up while it's in motion then not only do they risk a seat belt ticket, but they had better not go near the hooch.

Same thing on a motorcycle. If you can't readily get out the bottle and drink, while you're operating it, then it isn't an issue. For example if it's in a sealed backpack, you should be in the clear.

I've carried two 24's in a backpack without problems. Also have travelled with a 24 strapped to the back seat without problems.

I've also driven with wine bottles in the cup holders on a regular basis. As far as I was aware, if it's not open (and you're not drunk), you're fine.

As to those suggesting smoking for a ride/drive instead, shame on you. Smoking while driving impairs you just like drinking does. Well... not quite the same and I'm a little more tolerant of it than being drunk off your *** and driving but I wouldn't recommend this. That said, almost daily I pass a few cars that you can tell someone is trying to relax after work, if you get what I mean. I just wish they'd wait until they got home instead of doing it in the middle of rush hour traffic or on the 401 when I've got enough ****** drivers to deal with.

As mentioned earlier, if the bottle/can is SEALED (not to be read as closed) then you can have it anywhere.
