You really do have it backwards, they are not the ones being arrogant.... French province, French signs, most road users read French, when in Rome... I am not fan of the Quebec language laws but in this case they are doing nothing arrogant or wrong, signs match what the locals (and most road users) speak and read. Most of the non-local road users also have no issues here.

Expecting them to bend to suit a minority of road users passing through that won't or refuse to take the basic effort it takes to understand the signs, that IS arrogant.

Wish they'd get rid of the French labels on all the food products etc in Ontario... everything I pickup at the supermarket I have to spin around cause the French side always pokes me in the eye. Like toast always lands butter side up.
 
Could be me, but I’m missing what the big deal is. I have driven/ridden in foreign countries where I had zero knowledge of the local language and been able to get around just fine for the most part.

Unless the point is just to poke at how dare Quebec use french in an otherwise english country.

I can handle that but why do I always end up pouring paint from a can obscuring the English instructions. French gravity??
 
Wife and i were entering Quebec years ago on our wing. We stopped at the visitor center for a rest and i picked up a map at the info desk. It had a sticker on it.$4.99.I peeled the sticker back to find printed under it "not for resale".
Sir! You have to pay for the map.
Me. I already did with my federal taxes.Bye.

Lets start doing that everywhere then, all signs, jobs, housing in woodbridge in italian.
in brampton? Punjabi.
North york? Russian/korean.

Markham? Better learn that mandarin if you wanna work.

Polish/Ukrainian in my old neighborhood.

Parents neighborhood would have changed annually for a while there. Can you write signs in Newfie?

If I ever go back to Deutschland, I'm going to brush up on their signage and laws, some of them seem quite different.

None of those are an official language in Canada so not even remotely the same and a poor argument.

Quebec, most people speak and read French (even if it is a second language) including the road users and a very important point: French is an official language in Canada and THE official language of the province, therefore road signs only in French is in no way arrogant. Expecting them to bend to the will of outside English road users, that IS arrogant.

we can also apply the same logic to Louisiana, with a similar history, but they're not dumb coddled children, so you dont need to learn a different language to get by when 90% of the population speaks english

People should just say they have a hate on for the Quebecois/French and be honest about it instead of goofy arguments about road signs and arrogance that people have road signs in the official language they use???? How dare they.

All parts of the Trans Canada like any highway are mostly used by "local" travel and shorter trips. Is the 401 In Ontario mostly people going across Ontario or is it people driving from one point in the province to another. Ever drive the 401, is it all out of province drivers, no!

Driving through QC on the TC, like I just did, vast majority are QC plates (we watch plates to pass the time).

So you're just gonna ignore my entire post about Louisiana? Cool.

The only people who hate the quebecois are the french in france.

Im just pro efficiency of communication and ease of access.

It makes sense that your post about Louisiana is ignored because it made no sense. French is not an official language is Louisiana. English is the official language is the USA.

It would be pretty inefficient to read signs printed in every language possible. It would always be inefficient to track, create custom signs and change the signs on local streets every time a demographic shift happens.

Canada has two official languages English and French. It's not very complicated.
