Public education

Just a rant.

Who actually does works anymore? It seems we are seeing the increase of students after students but a decrease in workers.

By definition a student does not generate income of any shape or form.
A worker does.

People are in school longer than ever, but their contribution to society has been in decline.
The most contribution still comes from the select few immigrants.

I rant because the amount I have to pay in taxes will be much lower if society stopped putting such a large amount of protection on students.

If people had to work to get the education they and their children need or want, the quality of education will be much higher. Government should set the standards of what schools should teach but it should not be tax money supported.

Free education will ruin this country from its core, end public education.
I should not have to subsidize the cost of education of 5 other people.

I can't wait to hear your solutions to fix all the problems this idea will cause.

Rant acknowledged

I think education should be free but it should be harder to STAY in university. Ie everyone with the right grades gets in from high school but if you flunk first year...you're out.

I wouldn't say you're out, but it wouldn't be free anymore.

Not exactly sure where you're directing your rant - you want elementary/high school to lose public funding? Post secondary isn't free last time I checked (although it is heavily subsidized).

I'd like to see more failing University students get the boot. I used to work at a University, and the amount of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, (etc) chances they'd get was ludicrous. The school was reluctant to give these kids the boot, because they paid a lot of $$ to go there. A lot of under-performing students get to coast along with no real consequences for their actions/behaviour, and aren't learning a thing about real life and responsibilities.

maybe I've been living under a rock.....I have one son in university and one in college.....its not cheap...where are people getting this for free?

I wish there was better incentive for private education for highschool or elementray school. The public education system is broken and simply does not provide quality education anymore. I wish I could have afforded to send my kids to private institutions, via tax incentive or something?

Post secondary education is too full of kids that have failed to be taught how to learn.

I understand that this year will be the last year of the "victory lap", "grade twelve pt II" or whatever it is called for you.

As a person still paying off his OSAP, I'd also like to know where one can obtain free post-secondary education

Define education. Look at all the Phds and MNAs that created a financial crisis that a grade 10 math student cold have forseen. Where does one get a degree in common sense?

The best education one can get is to be raised on a farm.

Firstly, are you talking about College or highschool or what?

Do you want it mire like in the usa with ivy league colleges for the rich and then community colleges for the rest?

The reason people are going to school is because desent paying middle class jobs are harder to find.

This thread demonstrates why education should be free. I've never seen such ridiculous spelling, grammar, and opinion void of intellect.

You mean their parents paid, don't you?

Eye no dig you idear!

honestly the only thing I remember jinster for is screwing up some mechanic task, and looking for a second job. Options for the latter would be increased with a decent education.

Cheap compared to American tuition which is not subsidized. Canadian tuition prices only cover a fraction of actual costs.
